Eric Ernst

Recommended Posts

Although the news has featured on the AVSIM main page, many of us may not have known that Eric Ernst died in April at the tragically early age of 51.

As the developer of the 767 Pilot in Command, his work was the forerunner of the 'study level' aircraft that we see today with PMDG and FSLabs, amongst others.

A sad loss for our community.

Brings some fine memory of his work on building eye-candy 2d panels for FS98: an elegant MD-80, a wonderful Saab 340, and a very (VERY!) much anticipated and revolutionary 767 (was it 1999?).

Horribly sad news. He did some fine work and really helped elevate flight simulation.

I remember the pleasure his freeware 767 panel gave me during my earlier FS days. Although it's been sometime since I've seen the name, seeing it now brings back  happy memories. Thank you Eric for all your hard work.

I remember emailing Eric back in 1999 before 9/11, I forget what now but he was a very nice humble guy.  He'd love it when he was on the job with American Eagle and someone from the FS community would recognize him and talk.  He was devastated by the events of 9/11 and dropped out of the FS community feeling the terrorist took his work and was able to pilot those 757's enough to cause the attacks.  None of that was conclusive yet he took it personally anyway.  He was a great guy whom I'm shocked is gone so soon.  It's sad it seems many here don't realize who he was and what his work has brought us to today.

Actually, Simon is putting together a write up on Eric to be placed in the ‘in memoriam’ section so we can all pay tribute to the pioneer of high fidelity desk top airliner simulation.

I’ve only just spotted this. How sad. I also enjoyed Eric’s superb 767 freeware panel. It was outstanding quality at the time and what a gent to make it available for no charge.

51 is no age. My condolences to his family. Thank you Eric for your dedication to the flight sim community and generosity. 🙂

Just learned of this. Shocked. His panels were excellent. Didn't he aid in the development of the Level D 767? Prayers and Sympathy to his family.
