NASCAR tracks

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I'm looking to find something that came out way back in 2006 called "NASCAR 04 Track Pack" which had every NASCAR track in its location across the country. I managed to track it down using the Wayback Machine at a site called FS Simcafe but sadly the download from the server no longer exists. If anyone has any access or info on this please let me know. Also to those who have it, if its not a worthwhile scenery let me know as well. Thanks for any help!

I'd be interested in this download as well. I have the nearest airports to all the tracks but sadly, not many of the actual tracks are there with UT2.

I had this at one time but dumped a bunch of stuff ( this included) with a failed HD and MB.

You won't find this type of package anymore (up to date) because of NASCAR and certain track owners. They got very protective of their brand and started clamping down.

Wish you luck.

Thank you.

Of course they saw $$$$. But then what did they offer?  BTW. Is there any history that they pursued that effort?

Beyond that. Has anyone else noticed that NASCAR tracks are coloring the seats in the grandstands to make it look, despite empty, like they are occupied by paying patrons?

I don't remember all the specifics but I do remember that a Daytona scenery did not include Daytona Speedway because of NASCAR. There was a some discussion about this but as I said it has been too long ago to remember all the details. Google it if your interested. You might find something.

Thank you.

Back in the early days of computer racing simulation I played a game called NASCAR Racing, all the tracks were available to us but Daytona due licensing issues. Over the years license issues got even worse ....

....hell, you have to get a license to publish a photo of the cypress tree at Cypress Point in Monterey.

Anyway, not that you asked, but I’ve included a video of a Tuesday night online racing league I ran in the early 2000’s. What might be interest to you is that several of the young members at that time would go on the to be NASCAR cup champions -Truex, Keslowski, Hamlin,

I drove the 47 truck (3 rd on the pole )..... if you can make it to the 1st commercial break ( around 10 minute mark) you’ll be treated to some classic sponsors.

Thanks guys for the info. Seems it might be just one of those things that disappears over time. I'm not sure I buy into the licencing thing as you can still get the freeware KDAB with the Daytona track included at the other site.

Oh dude, it’s very much real. One cannot distribute - real or imagined, anything with the name NASCAR with out a license. And, as far as I know, all the track owners protect the name and likeness of their tracks with the same vigor.

I'm not so sure about this either.

NASCAR doesn’t own tracks, it owns the brand of racing that is conducted on the track. Just like Indy Car races on some of the same tracks that NASCAR races on.

Texas Motor Speedway which hosts NASCAR, IRL and other sanctioned events is owned by Speedway Motor Sports, Inc.

I think the only issue would be if the said racetracks that were used in the sim were displaying the NASCAR logo at the time. Otherwise I don’t see how a building or track could have a legal defense about it being portrayed in a game/sim as long as no logos are displayed.

Yeah, i'm not lawyer, but I do know that people pay big money to license something from NASCAR like "NASCAR 04 Track Pack" -see EA sports.

And yes, I'm well aware that no real track used for NASCAR sanctioned events are actually owned by NASCAR, but somebody does pay to license for the exclusive right to sell and distribute digital gaming content of tracks that are associated with NASCAR.

It’s true that NASCAR does not own tracks directly. Many, such as Daytona, Talladega etc. are owned by International Speedway Corporation. However, both NASCAR and ISC were founded by Bill France Sr. in the 1950s, and both corporations are still controlled by members of his family.

The operational control of both companies by the France family been the source of several lawsuits by competing racing organizations on anti-trust grounds.

I agree that it would be unlikely that NASCAR /ISC would have the ability to claim a trademark on any track’s physical location or basic layout in flight simulation. Especially if the appearance in FS scenery was based on orthophotos. Any logos would certainly be trademarked however.
