Best CPU for Prepar3dv4.2

So long as my now 4 year old 4770K keeps going at 4.8ghz I will not upgrade my CPU until I can get a CPU with a 6ghz main thread. Even that  25% increase wouldn't help much. All it would do is make it easier to maintain 30fps with maybe slightly higher eye candy setting and extra cores I guess would help to keep textures sharp. Anything less would not be worth the $$$ IMO

Wouldn't hold my breath. Cores is the name of the game now, not clock speed.

That's exactly why I wouldn't consider upgrading from an i7 4770K at 4.8ghz

The release of the i7 4770K and the GTX 780 now nearly 5 years ago was the last really significant watershed for FS hardware performance. Even upgrading from the previous generation of hardware gave a very significant value for money performance boost. Nothing in the line of hardware has made that much of a difference since except that upgrading your GPU now makes sense given the changes to P3D code. I now have a 980ti in my system and on a 1080p screen I would happily stack my performance for the kind of flying I like to do up against 8700K at 5ghz and 1080ti. Sure the latter would be better but only a little and I just don't see how an extra 3 fps is worth spending all that money. Sure if you are on pre-Haswell system, upgrading to the latest tech should deliver big performance gains in FS but if you are on a budget I would say you could do very well for a lot less $$$ building a i7 4770K based system. If my 4.8ghz CPU deteriorates before the next significant FS hardware performance watershed, I'll just buy another i7 4770K cpu and stick it in the same system. That's how much I think the advances in CPU tech matters to P3D since then.

One more vote for the venerable 4770K

I have added a GTX1070 since installing P3DV4, but other than that, this CPU does the job nicely indeed.  Could not be happier

+1 i have a 7900x@ 5 ghz

and purchased a corsair obsidian 1000d to have the oportunity to put a mini itx system in the same case.

so the 7900x will only be p3d and all the Network capabel addons and daily business stuff on the mini itx i hope i can get one of the limited 8086K processors for the mini itx 🙂
