Recent changes to pattern entry at non-towered airports

If you are working on perfecting your pattern entry to non-towered or towers manned part-time, here is the official FAA link to the Advisory Circular detailing the changes,

In flight ops, I've routinely used the "newly" preferred entry to stay clear of existing traffic in the pattern since you cross above the traffic pattern altitude (TPA) and do a circling descent into the downwind at 45 degrees.  This minimizes the possibility of a mid-air when the pattern is full of fledglings 😉
