Which version should I buy?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find a post.

The problem is that I am a serious FSX fan, but I have been convinced P3D is an updated version of it, and I'm happy to invest in it. My question is regarding atc. If you look at the Licencing of the P3D page, it mentions ATC for the Professional ($199) version, but not the Academic licence ($59.95). So is there no ATC in the academic version? Either way, it's the ATC in P3D very different to the one in FSX?

I would really appreciate it if someone can let me know as I'd love to try P3D out!

Thanks, Gaz

There are great and better alternatives to use for the FSX style ATC.   Pilot2ATC and ATC-PRO X are two of the best.

Neither of those products look good for me. I know there are faults with the FSX ATC, but it runs my aircraft alongside the other aircraft in there.

Doesn't P3D have much at all in any version?

The P3DV4 Professional and Academic are exactly the same program and features. The academic has a watermark in the upper right hand corner. The ATC is very similar to FSX if not the same. I use Pro-ATC X, which is great for airliners.

Thanks for that, it really helps. I don't think that FSX ATC is great, but I use Ultimate Traffic, and I understand Pro-ATC doesn't work with that kind of traffic - only your aircraft?

I think there is something similar to Ultimate Traffic for P3D? Sorry if I'm wrong, but please let me know...

If you´re somehow happy with fsx atc you´ll be fine with p3d atc. And yes pro-atc does not work wit ia traffic, but is probably one of the best investments I´ve made on P3D. If you fly IFR that is. I mainly fly thru Europe on a phenom 300 with GTN750 and VR.

cheers

Hi Gary,

I use Prepar3D v4.2 Academic and the ATC engine seems to be the same as what I had in FSX. For more realistic AI traffic, I use "Ultimate Traffic Live" and it does a good job. I never invested in a 3rd party ATC software simply because I don't use it, so I cannot comment on those.

Hi NBouc, thanks. I like to use the ATC, and I know it's not great, but it's pretty important to me. Yeah, I agree, Ultimate Traffic is great. Does that work with P3D, or will I have to buy a different version?

Thanks, Gaz

Gary, UT2 is not directly compatible with P3D. UT Live is.

But if you are up to the task, here's a link to a tutorial made by "Poppet" explaining how to install UT2 into P3Dv4 despite UT2 not being compatible with P3D.

If UT2 uses some FS9 AI models, these might not work in P3D.

Sorry, but thats nonsens: of course Pro-ATC recognize the AI traffic and you hear the transmission between ATC and AI.

I use UTL and PATC together, for me the best solution as i mainly fly 738 and 777. For VRF the better ATC solution is PF3 as far as i have heard.

I'm slightly confused.. I read that that ProATC does not talk to the AI traffic generated in Ultimate Traffic Live. It would be an interesting thing to try if it works together...

I'm taking it that we're talking P3D ?

Thanks, Gaz
