P3Dv4 CTD

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon All

I've been running P3Dv4 for a few months now and randomly have CTD's.  All addons that I have are compatible.  I have just attempted a flight and the two attempts both CTD'd at the same point.  I have not added anything or made any system changes since the last successful flight yesterday.

The AppCrashView shows the following, I would really appreciate a steer as to what might be causing this.  Thanks in advance, James.

An AppHang is difficult to diagnose as it provides no clues as to why the sim crashed.  Sometimes these hangs are temporary and eventually go away.  When a sim crashes at the same point, it is normally an issue with a scenery addon.  It could be an AI arriving at that location that has corrupted textures or something that is not compatible with P3DV4.  If you are using the Lorby_Si Addon Organizer, you might disable all of the addon scenery by changing the color of the entries from green to red.  You should also check the encoding on all of your files by clicking on the icon in the upper right corner of the Addon Organizer.  If there is an issue, simple click save under the Scenery icon and that should fix the problem.  If you are not using the addon organizer and the scenery.cfg, you can try renaming the scenery.cfg to scenery.cfg.off, restart P3D and the default entries will be rebuilt.  But, if you have the addon organizer, all of your addon's should have been place in this utility and you should only have default entries showing in your scenery.cfg.

Many times a problem is fixed by renaming the P3D.cfg to P3D.cfg.off, restarting P3D and letting the config rebuild.  Something may have gotten corrupted or you had a tweak and it is not working properly.

Thanks for the advice Jim, unfortunately the problem persists.  I've turned off all AI, renamed the .cfg file and looked at addon scenery for an issue.  I still suffer the same CTD in the same place on taxiing to Rwy30 at KMIA.

This is really annoying, I moved away from FSX as this kept happening.  Currently very frustrated that the process to ID this problem is not simple.  It looks like I'm going to have to try a complete reinstall.  Not happy.

This is a new CTD? You did not mention this one in your OP, including the fact you were at KMIA.  Is KMIA the default, LatinVFR, or Drzewiecki Design?  And what you posted in your OP is not a CTD.  Your application hung (APPHang).  From what I can see from your AppCrashView report, P3D loaded successfully and so did your aircraft and airport scenery.  Nothing wrong with them.  If they are commercial renditions of KMIA, did you check with the developer for updates?  As I recall there was an update from LatinVFR and Drzewiecki issues an update to MiamiX to make it more compatible with LatinVFR.  You should also try reinstalling.

Thanks Jim.  The KMIA scenery is default, I have no KMIA addons.

I cannot replicate the error at R/W 30.  The problem with AppHangs is that they are difficult to pinpoint.  In P3DV4, I have found that P3D is loading scenery and modules and objects from all over the world.  In FSX, it would usually be just the situation loaded and stuff would load during your flight if you got into a certain radius.  So a commercial airport or scenery or aircraft in a foreign country could be loading and creating the crash.  Even a module could be interacting with P3D.

I see you are running P3DV4.1.  Is there a reason.  There is a free update to v4.2 on the Lockheed website.  Just sign into your account and download.  All you need to do is uninstall the P3D Client and reinstall P3D Client.  You can do a complete reinstall too.  There were many bugs found in V4.1 and they were fixed in v4.2 (mostly).

Thanks again Jim.  Just realised I need to update to the 4.2 so in the process of doing that now.

Wish I was a bit more techy so I knew how to do this sort of stuff without bothering you guys.

Thanks again.

You're not the only one that has occasional issues with their simulator.  We enjoy helping others!  If you have further problems, download the AVSIM CTD Guide and follow some of their guidance.
