Searched, Still No Go: GTN 750, Carnado PC-12

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Long time RXP flyer from the early MSFT days back again! Happy to have just purchased the Garmin GTN 750 for the Carnado PC-12 in XP11. I have the latest versions of both plane and RXP installed  but I'm still not able to see the display in the airplane. So far I've:

1. Turned off Anti-virus then installed using default suggested paths

2. Added AV exclusions to avoid issues with the files

3. Setup trainer to run as admin

4. Run the PC-12 and I can see the instrument installed in the panel. If I bring up the pop-up, it works in the airplane. Just not in the panel

5. I've checked the log files, even turned on logging for trainer and video card and no errors displayed

6.Tried changing settings from pilot to copilot, also setting power to all available modes - no changes.

Any ideas what is going on? Unit appears to be installed in the panel properly but just does not turn on with batteries, starting the plane, external power, nothing.

Thanks,

Aaron

You must have the most recent trainer installed, have you got that?  Version 6.4.1 and Laucher 2.1.

Hi, you shouldn't ever set any program to run as admin unless it is an admin program (system tool). Otherwise, the program registry paths and system paths are not the same and will certainly make the program work differently or not as expected.

Now, the issue you are having is in the RealityXP.GTN.ini file in the aircraft folder. I suggest you review the RXP GTN User's Manual to understand the structure of the ini file, then look for the 'PANELS' rendering section for the gauge. There is a chance the frame.rect= setting is set as 0,0,0,0  (and probably visible = false) which would explain why it doesn't show up on the panel.

I don't know the coordinates for this aircraft, but some other customers might have the information, otherwise, it might just be a bug somewhere when the PC12 configuration copies the 'stock' ini file from the installation folder into the aircraft folder (or a similar process)?

Hello Jean-Luc and thanks for the tip. I checked and since I have re-installed several times, I did not reset the program to run as administrator. I did however get another PC-12 user to send me his .ini file which works partially in the plane. With this file, i was able to get the 750 to power on in the airplane but it appears that I have a zoomed in window in 3D view which I cannot interact with. The 750 also pops up in a separate window which I can interact with. below is a copy of my INI file. Would you mind having a look to see if there is anything obviously out of sorts?

Also, is it necessary to do "custom" mods to the .ini file based on this plane or does the install program just work? My default install seemed to put the gauge in the right place in the panel, just wanted to know if running the install and then selecting the GTN in the airplane is all that is required by default?

This value is set in my .ini file. I am using a known good .ini file from another PC-12 user as a test.

Does the .ini file get copied in from somplace else and overwrite the .ini file in the aircraft folder?

I don't know how Carenado proceeds with this particular aircraft, but in general, they store pre-configured ini files which gets copied into the aircraft folder during installation when using their aircraft config tool (FltSim), or I suspect they just install the RXP ini file since they also use runtime auto-detect to dynamically change the aircraft panel (XPlane).

This means you should just have to install their aircraft then select the RXP device in the RXP menu to automatically change the aircraft config (3D panel wise) and have the RXP GTN/GNS display.

It is possible your ini file has got corrupted somehow, either because of a bug in our plugin (possible), or just because the ini file initially installed was missing the values (it has happened with a few past aircraft and solved in subsequent updates).

Now on your file has a frame.rect to display to in the 3d panel, and it is set visible.

Have you activated 'scale UI' setting in XPlane? I doubt this would cause this but I'm trying to cross check all possibilities.

Otherwise, this just means this 'rectangle' is too large to display, which puzzles me if the same ini file for the same aircraft doesn't render the same on your friend computer and yours?!?

Thanks Jean-Luc,

I'm really at a loss. I've actually uninstalled XP, and the aircraft and started from scratch. Still the same issue. The gauge displays in the panel just fine showing the 750 on top of the 530 with the transponder gauge removed. The problem is it does not turn on. and this "double screen" is killing me. Here is the supposedly "good" ini file from the other user of the Carnado PC-12. I've just asked if he is using it with all the latest versions which I am (XP 11.21 and Carnado v1.2)

Theoretically, shouldn't I just be able to copy this into my .ini file and it just works?

There are 3 different things here:

1) not turning on: can you please review the content of the RXP log files (see GTN User's Manual for file/path)

2) double screen: is there a way you could post a screenshot? I fail to 'represent' what this is?!?

3) ini file: yes, provided this is the same aircraft, the same ini file should work as-is. The ini file contains both the GTN settings (power source, pilot side, com/nav set etc..) AND the rendering settings (draw a popup, draw to 3D, and where).

I don't believe the logs show anything? Here is the data:

If you are running xenviro remove it and try the PC12 again. Have a look at this forum https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/150880-realityxp-gtn750-pc-12-integration/

Hope you get it working as I have had no problems with my installation.

Dissy,

That was it! The link takes you back to my post. I just realized this after looking at plugins. I was running latest 1.09. Had to revert back to 1.07 to have it work again. Will review the thread. Below is what I posted on the Carenado forum:

Hello,

I recently updated my XE from 1.06 to 1.09. Other than the turbulence, I was not seeing any other major issues that were impacting my flying. That was until I purchased the RealityXP GTN 750 for my Carnado PC-12. With this configuration, I was getting issues with the gauge powering up in the airplane, in addition to some very strange pre-set zoomed in views in the 3D cockpit. I was not even thinking XE but someone suggested I remove all my plugins, then run XP again to see if the issue is resolved. It indeed was and the gauge was working as expected in the panel. I then went back to investigate plugins. Since XE was the last plugin I updated, I started here. I'm running version 1.09:

1. after removing all plugins, I added ONLY xEnviro version 1.09 to plugins and viola, the same issue appeared. Large, zoomed in screen, no way to click the 750, unit does not power on.

2. I removed xEnviro, started again and back to normal, except the double menu on the bottom left.

3. I added ALL plugins back in that I had EXCEPT xEnviro, and all was still fine

4. Added xEnviro with all other plugins enabled and screen issue came back.

5. I removed xEnviro 1.09 and tried 1.08. Same problem. Tried 1.07 and all WORKS. So for now, I can only upgrade from XE 1.06 to 1.07.

I'm not sure the connection here but it seems that something does not agree with versions 1.08 and 1.09 of xEnviro. My specific setup in this scenario is:

XP11.21

Carenado PC-12 v1.2

latest RXP 750 and trainer programs

Happy to help troubleshoot.
