4K Tv/monitor size recommendations

Hi guys. Quick question. What size 4K TV/monitor should I get to see the gauges/displays of the PMDG NGX, for example,as close as possible to real life size?

IHMO, go big or go home... in addition to screen size, 'life-size' depends on your VC zoom setting and eye location ([views] eyepoint) and viewing distance from the screen. With my settings, 58" is close to life-sized.

I've been running a 55 inch 4k for about 3 years... to be honest, it's too big, and the bigger you go the less crisp things seem to look.  Then there is tilting your head back to look at things, etc.  I think that 40" to 43" is perfect.

IMHO the future here is VR, so I would not invest a big amount of money in monitors anymore.

No sir, should be quite obvious it's different when you're only 18 to 24 inches away from a monitor.  Get it now?

I tend to agree. A couple of months ago I tried a Samsung Odyssey for a few weeks. I ended up returning it because of the lower resolution (I presently use a 2K 34 inch UW wide monitor), but the experience of being in a full scale cockpit can't be beat. Maybe I'll wait to see what the Pimax 8K will bring.

I bought a 49" Samsung QLED 6 Series 4K-3840 x 2160 native resolution TV for $982 CDN yesterday, down from $1499 and followed Rob's setup as per his pinned post at the top.  I was amazed at the crispness and marveled at how smooth the sim felt, completely different experience that I had with a 40" HDTV with 1920 x 1080 native resolution.  

Make sure that you get a UHD TV with 3840 x 2160 native resolution if you are going that route.

With my 4k experience is to give it as much card as you can because it needs it a 1080ti does the trick quite well for me. The next generation should be even better for 4K. also I run a 40" HGTV. If you want full size 55" is about perfect.  Josh

I had a 980 and it kept up, but it was close. I later upgraded to a 1080ti and it takes it in stride.

Hi Dave. I’ve been giving some thought to UHD displays. Originally I was going to substitute my Sony 32” 1920*1080 TV for a BenQ 32” UHD monitor but the price is enormous. Around 800UKP.

Those monitors are really for critical colour work for photographers but for simming I’m coming around to the idea that a decent quality UHD TV is fine. I’ve been pointed to the Samsung MU6700, a 40” display which critically has support for 4:4:4 which makes text very crisp. That’s essential when doing Windows maintenance etc. Rob alludes to this in his pinned topic above.

I’ll be sitting around 3-4ft from the display and feel a 40” would be just about right. So your comment was especially welcome. The larger screens would make you look up more and that could be a neck problem for some.

How do you find the sound TVs compared to separate speakers and a sub? I’d need to clear the desk and I suspect the speakers &sub would have to go.
