how do you prevent ASCA from automatic startup?

Recommended Posts

Everytime I launch Active Sky, it automatically launches ASCA. How can I prevent that from happening.

And is there a way I can load P3D along with all my 3rd party apps simultaneously instead of having to load each app one by one.

I heard you can add entries into FSUIPC to do this, but I'm not really sure how to do that. Could somebody help me please.

Aaron,

ASCA is designed to launch with AS16 as it provides the various cloud textures demanded by AS16. The two programs are Siamesed together for that reason.

When it comes to launching 3rd party programs you have two options:-

1) FSUIPC. The process is very simple and described in the User Manual.

2) Purchase SimStarterNG which allows you to have different configurations of P3D depending on either your aircraft or how you like to fly. Low and slow or high and fast. It also had a facility to launch programs for each configuration.

But for simplicity go with FSUIPC unless you need what SimStarterNG offers.

What if I don't want to use ASCA for cloud textures but want to use Rex Skyforce instead? That's why I don't want to have ASCA loaded when I load up ActiveSky. But at the same time I don't want to uninstall it either just incase I decided I want to switch back.

Yes I'm aware of FSUIPC start up features and read about it in the manual but I'm still not entirely sure the correct way to set it up. This is what I'm asking help with. If somebody can give me an example of how to do it.

I could just paste the relevant bit of the user manual but that wouldn’t achieve much. Pete provides an example in the manual so why not just read it and try it?

I'm wondering the same... so if I have ASCA installed there's no way to prevent it to launch when Active Sky is launched?

For example, today I want to use ASCA for textures, tomorrow I want to use REX Sky Force for textures but with Active Sky for weather generation?

If you do not want to use ASCA, right click on it and close it. It takes a second. If you don't want to use Sky Force, don't open it. 😀

Doctor it hurts when I do this, then don't do it!

How about an option to select weather ASCA is started automatically when Active Sky is launched?

It's not an unreasonable assumption that if you've bought ASCA you want to use it when you start AS16. The simplest solution as DJJose says is to close it manually.

Well, it's not unreasonable but it's also not unreasonable to expect an option to select if an external program is launched or not even though it was made by the same company.

So, when ASCA is launched with AS no textures are immediately overwritten? If I close ASCA, it was like it never opened?

I couldn't say. You should ask the question on the Hi-Fi forum.

Yes, sure, but c'mon.. disabling all the things every time I want to use some other cloud textures addon vs. one option in AS?

Unless you are using the Global or Full dynamic themes ASCA doesn't change anything upon starting alongside Active Sky. So when you are satisfied with a fixed set of textures and you have installed these in your sim there's no need for ASCA to start alongside Active Sky every time..

Also, if you are not using Global or Dynamic, just leave it alone. It will do nothing and you can use whatever else you want. It's not taking up cycles, FPS or anything else unless you are using dynamics.

Just ignore it. It will auto close with ASP4.
