A associate of mine found as he has been to Everest several times.A highly modified helio has landed on the TOP of Mt. Everest, if you think about this for a minute, it is really quite an incredible success.http://www.defencetalk.com/news/publish/article_002441.shtml

Everest is about 25,000'. The tropopause is about 50,000' at those latitudes this time of year. The service ceiling of that helo is about 17,000' in an assumed ISA atmosphere with a the notional tropopause at 36,000. That would account for the extra ooomph!

Except Everest is closer to 30,000, sitting at 29,029.Pretty good feat all the same, considering the winds that hang out there. Anybody find any pictures of it yet?Regards,Joeaopa.gif" border="0" alt="Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

The point is that if you are going to go for altitude records, then there are certain lats and longs where it is going to be a whole lot easier.

It's still being claimed as valid by the pilot and by eurocopter, but the Nepali government says the landing was only on the Wouth Col. Eurocopter says they've sent the full length master videos to the FAI, who will review them before deciding whether to recognize the landing.

>But it wasn't the summit of Everest. This was the summit of the Everest, no question about it. What is being debated is whether this "touchdown" can be classified as landing since for landing both rails must be touching the ground.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

Slightly off-topic, but recent research by the Catholic University of Louvain found the sherpas (who act as porters carrying climbers' equipment up Everest) carry on average a load equal to 93% of their body mass, and a fifth carried 125%. In contrast, it's reported that army guidelines say a backpack should not be more than 15% of body mass. Also, two sherpas, Neema Gombu and his brother Mingma, have climbed Everest 22 times between them.Landing a helicopter doesn't seem to be such a big deal after all, specially if it wasn't on the peak.
