Everest is about 25,000'. The tropopause is about 50,000' at those latitudes this time of year. The service ceiling of that helo is about 17,000' in an assumed ISA atmosphere with a the notional tropopause at 36,000. That would account for the extra ooomph!

Except Everest is closer to 30,000, sitting at 29,029.Pretty good feat all the same, considering the winds that hang out there. It's still being claimed as valid by the pilot and by eurocopter, but the Nepali government says the landing was only on the Wouth Col. Eurocopter says they've sent the full length master videos to the FAI, who will review them before deciding whether to recognize the landing.

Slightly off-topic, but recent research by the Catholic University of Louvain found the sherpas (who act as porters carrying climbers' equipment up Everest) carry on average a load equal to 93% of their body mass, and a fifth carried 125%. In contrast, it's reported that army guidelines say a backpack should not be more than 15% of body mass.Also, two sherpas, Neema Gombu and his brother Mingma, have climbed Everest 22 times between them.Landing a helicopter doesn't seem to be such a big deal after all, specially if it wasn't on the peak.
