SimConnect Exception 20

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi to all,

I don't get the live traffic to be displayed in FSX. PSXSeeconTraffic and RealTraffic on Windows 10 computer connect via network to Windows7 machine running FSX. PSXseeconTraffic connects to both FSX and RealTraffic (both show green) but no live traffic is displayed, only parked aircraft. RealTraffic shows "notraffic" on whichever airport I choose. RealTraffic license is valid, versions of both programs are latest,  The attached logfile shows that there is a simconnect exception #20 when PSXseeconTraffic tries to read traffic from RealTraffic. What does this exception mean? and why do I get green colour indidicating successful connection. Any help appreciated. Tried both the Standalone and Simple version of RealTraffic several times. Please find PSXseeconlog below.

Best regards

Hi,

Try:

Exit RealTraffic, delete RealTraffic.ini and re-start RealTraffic (see also my FAQ).

EDIT: FYI,  PSXseeconTraffic does not use SimConnect to read from RealTraffic. It connects to  a UDP data stream at port 49'003.

See this part in the log:

07:04:31 Connecting Traffic Reader to UDP port 49003 ...
07:04:31 Traffic Reader connected

Simconnect is used by PSXseeconTraffic to communicate with FSX/P3D.

Thank you for your reply. Actually I did read the FAQ carefully and already tried to delete the RealTraffic.ini and restart several times to no avail. I've used simconnect for almost twenty years now without any problem to connect a myriad of add-ons to my good old FSX, so I guess that my server simconnect configuration is ok. I can even run other simconnect add -ons from the same client I try to run PSXseecon and RealTraffic from without any further problems, thus I suppose that also the client simconnect config is fine, but the log made me suspicious that the simconnect error could be related to realtraffic because it always happens immediately after the Traffic reader connection. But since you say that this is wrong, and simconnect is only used for the connection to FSX, how can it be then that I get a successful connection (green) to FSX via simconnect, airplane and airport are recognised correctly and I get all the parked traffic. Can it be that there is something wrong with my BVAI AI installation? But if so I guess, there wouldn't be any parked traffic either, isn't it? For example I have installed the BVAI aircraft in the /simobjects/airplanes folder instead of adding another folder to the fsx.cfg. So what else can I try, I've already tried to run real traffic in debug mode but this didn't help either. Can you tell me perhaps what the simconnect exception #20 means? By the way turning off the firewall and addings rules to open the relevant ports doesn't help either. Quite frustrating though.....

Best regards

I don't think the SimConnect exception is the problem. In your log you can see a sendfail error 10053, after which RealTraffic stops. 10053 means that the connection between PSXseeconTraffic and RealTraffic has been aborted.. (so not the UDP stream but RealTraffic itself).

Maybe tomorrow I will make available a version with debug information. Then we can better see what is going on at your system.

EDIT: SimConnect Exception 20 =:  SIMCONNECT_EXCEPTION_DATA_ERROR

Hi Nico,

while playing around to generate the log for you I was finally successful, strangely enough I simply have to use the client's IP address instead of localhost in the RealTraffic Settings and then everything works. Thank you for your great support anyway. One last question: I remember there was a way in earlier versions to completely disable ground traffic and only show traffic aloft (I guess this could be accomplished by an entry in the .cfg file similar as percentage_parked = 0 or by setting a minimal_altitude threshold like "only show traffic above 1000 ft GND". Do you have abandoned these options or are they still available?

ad 1) That's strange, maybe you should report that to Bathasar the author of RealTraffic.

ad 2) No, I have removed these options. You can disable Show GND TFC in RealTraffic.

EDIT: From your log file with debug info:

The Simconnect Exceptions were about setting the parking brake at the Parked aircraft. Maybe that does not work in FSX? I have not noticed that in P3D...

Will remove that function from my app, while it does not have the effect wanted (making the jetways move).
