Skysimworks Beech 18 Sounds

Recommended Posts

FYI: I purchased  a sound set for the Beech 18 by Skysimworks that is available from the  Flightsim Pilot Shop.  It says it is for FS2004, but the file itself indicates its for FSX also.  It sounds pretty good, especially the transition from a low rumble at idle to supersonic blade tip sound (like on a T-6) at take off.  It was worth it for $10.00.  Mike Gutierrez, North Hollywood, California.

Tried it, Mike, but Shupe's is still the best available, at least to my ear.

Not saying you're wrong, just my opinion.

Never heard of Skysimworks.  How about Skysong Soundworks?

Their D18 HD sounds are great and are available for all sims including FSX.

Hey Warhorse47 --- went and sampled the Skysong sound package. So nice I immediately picked it up and installed.

Wow, real radial sounds that are great. They do a nice job. Thanks for the tip.

Followed the directions carefully and doubled checked what I'd done, but they sound like a diesel tractor.

Didn't hear any of the prop howl that is so characteristic of the Twin Beech at all.

I wonder what could be wrong?

Perhaps I'll reinstall the whole Carenado package and then reinstall the sound package and see what happens.

Have installed update 1.1 (whole new install) and reinstalled the SkySong sounds.

No joy. I put Shupe's back in.

Well, no sense in discussing this any further.

I have Milton's D-18 and AT-11, and the Flysimware bundle as well and use the SkySong sounds on all of them.  It's a matter of individual preference and setup, mine includes a dedicated SoundBlaster sound card.  Nothing negative here, as there are a lot other freeware sounds like those with Milton's B-26 and Juan's DC-3 that I love.

There is just not enough time in the day to continually tweak these addons.

True this. My personal history includes about 200 hours as mission specialist in a C337. The default Carenado sounds were way too "clean". The C337 (like a lot of well used,  aspirated engine GA) sounds like a bucket of bolts at low RPM on the tarmac. Tried a payware sound package, a couple of freeware versions, finally settled on the FSD O-2 sounds. Not perfect but a better (to my ear) representation of the shake rattle and roll sitting in the airplane.

I really like good engine sounds and when done properly they can add very considerably to the sense of immersion in any aircraft. In many ways I think this is even more important in piston and turboprop aircraft where the character of the prop sounds can vary considerably depending on pitch as well as prop speed. In particular I have noticed that reverse pitch or beta range sounds in prop driven aircraft are often very poorly replicated, although I guess this doesn’t apply to the Beech 18.
