Finally : NVSurround Distortion Fix from LM

Finally NVSurround can be used without the fisheye effect.  LM has solved it by making special shaders which corrects the distortion.  

In P3Dv4.3 :

  • Open the Menu taskbar in P3D
  • Go to Views
  • Go to Manage Camera's
  • Fill in a name for the new Camera view
  • At the right from the list at the bottom check  "Wideview"  
  • Set the zoom you want ( best 0.31 --> has to be higher than 0.30 )
  • Save as Scenario

Fly without distortion ...

Will this work on triple monitors (stretched image) without NVSurround?

Sure, as that is stretcher too.

However, with NVSurround you can use bezel management .

You can make all camera views with the built in Manage Camera’s ..

Sorry for my skeptisism.... but im a long time user of viewgroups along with fly elysse lcd pro 3x 85 in lcd in 1 pc). 

Are you telling me that i can now streatch the window accross all displays hit alt + enter and im good to go? No need for warping software and viewgroups?

 

this would be excelent news since is a huge performance boost!

Unfortunately I fell into the trap here of thinking "marvellous: my 210 degree FOV 3 projector display is going to get a real performance boost."   

But then I read

Set the zoom you want ( best 0.31 --> has to be higher than 0.30 )

which is, at best, 150 degrees FOV to my calculations.

Sorry. Just not enough. May be okay for your setup?

 150° would be quite a stretch since you need overlap for the shader so more likely 110 or so

Some of you could not manage to get it to work , so :

In P3Dv4.3 :

Open the Menu taskbar in P3D
Go to Views
Go to Manage Camera's
Fill in a name for the new Camera view
At the right from the list at the bottom check "Wideview"  
Set the zoom you want ( best 0.31 --> has to be higher than 0.30 )
Save as Scenario
Open the Menu taskbar in P3D
Go to Views
Go to Change View
Choose your custom made View
( I have Saved the scenario at several airports )

 

Regarding FPS :

On my system ( 7940x / 1080 Ti )
-FT EHAM
- True Earth NL
- ASP4 + ASCA + EnvTex
- many sliders Maxed out
- AG buildings + trees : very dense
- AG distance : very high
- LOD radius : ultra

No AI aurcraft !

Left view ( seperate view ) + front view ) 2 monitor : surround ) : 55 fps

One wide surround view over 3 screens + Wideview correction : 92 fps

With Live Traffic : 26 vs 53

——-

Up to P3D V4.2 I used 3 seperate views with a 20 fps lock
When P3D V4.3 came out + TE NL it was very heavy on the system : 12-16 fps

Then I started with left + surround front view : 26 fps
With 1 wide view : 53

Conclusion

Up to 150 degrees FOV you can gain 60% FPS with a triple view setup when using 1 wide view compared to 3 seperate views , while seeing the same. So using the Distortion Fix is the way to go.

If you need more than 150 degrees FOV you need seperate views , which, unfortunately will still give you the low FPS...

As far as I look at it : if I had a < 180 degrees FOV setup I would go down to 150 degrees FOV and enjoy higher FPS with more detail .

Over 180 degrees use seperate views , or , if you are able to afford it , use multiple pc’s. Either P3D Professional Plus or WidevieW.

Yes, forgot about that.  The edges need a bit for blending.

That would be not much more than I had with a single projector and a flat screen.  Then I managed to reduce the distortion of leaning buildings and posts by tilting the view up a little combined with distorting the projected shape. That worked quite well -- I adjusted the zoom to give about 105 degree FOV which matched the distance from my eyes to the screen.

@GSalden,

      Yes, I didn't check it ,sorry -  just trying to remember what happened with that shader distortion fix effort that was attempted several years ago on the Forums. Then you had to have a lot more image left and right in order to get the proper correction.

      Do you type in the desired view FOV (150 x 88 or so for three 16x9 monitors) to the Camera Manager?

And are we trying to do just an out-the-window scene (cockpit view but no cockpit model) or actually with the virtual cockpit?
