Love the additions in Xplane 11.25

Recommended Posts

I was surprised to see another Xplane update when I fired up the sim the other day.  The completion of Las Vegas and the new, realistic Chicago skyline are excellent, I enjoyed and recorded a flight in the Cessna from Meigs to O'Hare, a flight I flew often in Sublogic's FS2 on my Commodore 64 more than 30 years ago.  Wow, how have sims come such a long way since then, flying past a realistic looking Willis tower as opposed to the old wireframe model in FS2.  I loved my landing today in the Cessna, with the stall horn chirping just as I touched down at O'Hare.  And the reslistic autogen and gazing down at the road signs as I pass the traffic on the freeways in the windy city where I was born 57 years ago.  Yesterday I enjoyed a flight out of Vegas, gazing down at the Stratosphere where I jumped off of in 2013.  Vegas to Phoenix in Aerobask's Eclipse is one of my favorite short hops, not that us Phoenicians have to go to Vegas anymore since we are ringed by Casinos of our own with Vegas style entertainment.  Enjoy and download Xplane 11.25, it is a gift from Austin and his team well worth it!

Landing your Cessna at KORD?  Would they even permit that?  Can you afford the landing fees if so?  JK.

The updates to Las Vegas are really nice!  I am hoping that FlyTampa releases their upcoming KLAS scenery for XPL as well.  The Glitter Gulch scenery is getting very dated.

A good day to stay inside and fly today with the record heat here in Phoenix!

How high is the temp there? Here in South TX, temps reached 105 but felt 111 yesterday, new record here.

We have been hovering in the 115-116 degree range, with an extreme heat warning.  We will be a cooler 111 today, dropping to 105 by Sunday then climbing back up.  One does notice the difference when the temp drops out of the hundred teens, and if a breeze comes up the heat is tolerable.  Our dew point is 59 degrees right now, close to the trigger point for scattered thunderstorms which tend to roll in off the mountains or from the South if the winds are right and gust fronts develop.  The storms can close Sky Harbor, divert flights sometimes to Vegas and Tucson.  I can feel pressure changes today in my ears, they hurt a little, a sign of storms brewing possibly.  When the storms get close I power down my computer and if they get too severe I unplug the surge protector from the wall, I lost a power supply once from a thunderstorm and nearby lightning strike on my old system and had to replace it.

Private prop landings at major airports are permitted at times for the purposes of flight instruction and pilot certification in such airports, in fact it is part of the light sport curriculum in Arizona to do a landing and takeoff at Sky Harbor if you want an advanced light sport certificate, in my case I would never do it, I have a slight speech impediment and have problems communicating with ATC, I prefer lessons in and out of Unicom airports, and prefer trikes with a handheld radio to ward off PPC's if they get too close, took my trike lessons in Brenda, Arizona, a trike and PPC field not on the regular airport maps with a thousand foot, 100 foot wide gravel runway pointed almost due south, thru a small canyon out over I-10.

If I recall correctly you can’t land your Cessna at ORD, I think JFK and ATL are also for-bitten

Even if you could land, it would take a lot of ground (phone) coordination - squawk code, altitude/heading to fly and a void time - before you could launch from Meigs
