you should try operating there ,we get asked for bribes for our DCNS/PPR/SLOTS and all the African countries we fly over to get down there. Greta needs another lesson on African corruption

One day ill take a screenshot of a regular aftn we get asking for $50k in "unpaid nav fees, happens all the time.

Im not surprised hes had problems doing it

I'm from there originally.  I know all to well what a shambles South Africa is.  In fact that is one of the reasons why development of OR Tambo was aborted before.  Basically someone wanted a pile of cash for photographic access.

For us mere mortals, could you expand on these acronyms, please?

DCN - Diplomatic Clearance Number

That's your landing permits in this case FAOR.  You buy a block permit every year.

You also get Overflight DCNs, so as we fly over various African countries to get to Joburg, we have to pay them to overfly their country. Its a huge source of money for them. Commonily Known as 'Nav Fees'

Depending on the country we buy these each year or season as a 'block permit' for a certain 'block' of time.  As apposed to a one off (which you would do in a private jet)

What happens every so often is the Democratic Republic of Congo will get a new Ministers of Transport, he will want a new BMW and will tell his staff to tell all operators with block permits (airlines) your block permit has expired and can you please western union 50k into an account or you cannot overfly Congo tonight on your flight down to joburg.

Unfortunately for Mr Congo, he's not got a missile or an air force that can shoot us down so we double check the permit and rip up the Aftn and then dispatch the flight.

Happens all the time, all the African countries do it.

Funnily enough Turkey used to the same with easyjet on the first Dalaman rotation of season each year to try scam us.  That's right, Turkey.

Slots - every knows what they are

Aftn - is a very old school way of sending messages and flightplans

I remember that too.  I  told Aerosoft I could get some photos (they never replied to my emails) after we did an extensive audit when that aircraft taxied into the pole at Joburg in 2013.  I forget which dodgy airline it was 😉😜

Hi,

I have just been reading that FAOR is still being worked on according to SWS FB site. Their latest post/update is from mid May.

https://www.facebook.com/SOUTH-WORLD-Scene-176410579623018/

It looks like FMMI will release first followed by FAOR then HAAB.

Note, the Developer has stated P3Dv4 and v5 are to be supported fro FAOR:

Details of the FAOR scene,

  • For P3dv4 & P3dv5
  • Dynamic lights
  • Full airport rendering
  • Sode jetways
  • VGDS sode will most likely be implemented as part of an update.

Cheers
Mark

FMMI recently released over on Simmarket, so hopefully this means Jo'burg is again one step closer to release!

FMMI release
