fsx gold edition/ keep on getting error

Recommended Posts

Currently running fsx Gold  addition, with windows 10, keep on getting this error message from Symantec endpoint protection, which is Norton, under Quarantine, listed as a risk Trojan Gen 2/ flie name filt1chk4.dll/location C::\\Windows\SysWOW64\.

I go to Quarantine and correct it and changes it to Restore.

Everytime it ruins my flight controller even when I try to calibrate it.  I have a CH Yoke.  The controller runs crazy cant get the plane off the ground even after calibrating it.

How would I correct this kind of a problem ? By the way I do see where it is located..  I change it to restore all the time and the same thing happens.

thanks, Ronny

Uninstall Symantec. Not trying to be sarcastic here. With FSX you need the least amount possible of processes running in the background.

I'm not a fan of running without antivirus and Symantec, although not the best for performance, isn't the worst. I have FSX on my system but don't have filt1chk4.dll so it doesn't seem to be directly connected to the sim. If you're absolutely certain that it's not infected (and I'd want to be 100% sure), you could set Symantec to exclude it from scans. Before doing that, I'd upload the file to VirusTotal (https://www.virustotal.com/#/home/upload) where it will be checked using over 60 of the most popular antivirus and antimalware apps.

I have run Nortons for many years while running FSX, P3Dv3 and P3Dv4 with no adverse affects.  Remembering too that Norton's is a suite of computer security programs rather than just an Antivirus.

In today's computer / internet environment, I wouldn't think of doing away with my computer security if I had personal information on my computer (most everyone) and/or used for for online banking, etc..  Thankfully I'm formally trained in computer security (US Department of Defense) and a former computer engineer, so I hope my opinion on the matter helps at least a few people.  I'm aware we have plenty of ostriches in our community and I'm not trying to tell them what to do (and I certainly have no desire to argue with them).

Some time ago I wrote a guide for Shared Cockpit Networking Guide (there are four guides, and they're all pinned in the AVSIM Shared Cockpit forum) in which I describe how clicking things can go south for an entire family because someone in the family didn't care about computer security.  It's not only a good read, it's something that happens several times a day across the world.

Anyone running the latest Nortons, Bit Defender or Kaspersky shouldn't see adverse affects while running FSX/P3D unless their system is already struggling to run the flight sim software.

Best wishes to everyone.

can't believe it happened again, doesn't make a difference what plane I fly with, PMDG, Aerosoft, Real Air, etc etc. the error message came through halfway through my flight.  Was flying Realair turbine v2 from Des Moines Iowa into Midway Chicago, and  half way through the flight error message comes up from Norton end point protection..

Ihave restored this so many times in the last couple of months.  The error message only comes up when flying with FSX.  On the internet going to various websites, no error message.

Really wonder what I should do?????

thanks again, Ronny

still no answer from virustotal.com

In Symantec endpoint protection under Quarantine it says the following

risk/ 2 names Trojan.Gen2 or WS Malware.2

file name/ flt1chk4.dll

original location C:\Windows\SysWOW64\

The list of results should show up on the webpage within a very short time - it's never taken more than a minute for me but it does depend on file size.

Have you tried making sure you have the latest drivers for your yoke?

Short of that, I think I might delete the .dll rather than try to fix it. If the yoke doesn't fix it, then reinstall the yoke.

Then scan your system with everything you have.

Haven't seen this one in ages.  That dll installs as part of one or more Flight1 add-ons.  It'll only come up when running the sim because the dll is loaded into memory (and thereby scanned) as part of the add-on.  IIRC, they use Themida (a commercial security application) to obscure their code, which causes AV programs to trip because hackers also use Themida to obscure *their* code.  The AV can't tell the good guys from the bad, so it gets flagged.  The trick is to exclude that dll from being scanned in your AV.

If in doubt, contact Flight1 for more info.
