Transmitting on VATSIM using audio panel/radio panel

Recommended Posts

Guest chris_pilot

Hey all,I often fly on VATSIM and would just like to know if there is a button/knob on the audio control panel to transmit/key the mic. for a message to the ATC or if i will always have to use a keyboard shortcut to transmit as this can be quite unrealistic. I fly using SquawkBox3 and with Level-D Sim 767-300ER.Appreciate any help!Cheers,Chris

If you get FSUIPC and buy the registration it will allow you to assign a button on your yoke/joystick to use. This is called the Push-to-Talk or PTT function. Well worth it, and much more realistic than pushing a button on the VC with your mouse.

PTT buttons are usually on the yolk/column for most aircraft small and large in the real world.Audo panels sometimes/most times will also have a monitor button.I have the LDS, PMDG, etc.,etc., etc.I use the for xmit and for xmit-private.

Hi Chris,Instead of using the keyboard as a PTT switch you could use a joystick button.A small freeware utility program that converts joystick input into keyboard input is JoyToKey.It can be downloaded at:http://www.mehdiplugins.comgo to their 'LINKS' which brings up a program list, one of them is the JoyToKey (file name jtk379en.zip).Frans

I watched the dvd that came with Level-D 767-300ER and it showed the pilots pressing a button on the audio panel when they wanted to transmit :SCheers,Chris

He was probably switching frequencies or activating one of the radios not talking. It could have also been that he was entering in his squawk code, then turning on the transdponder, but I doubt he was using that button to talk with.

Would there be any way i could tie up one of the buttons on the audio panel to be a PTT key?

Ermmm, not sure if I'd do that. Especially if they're already programmed by the developer, that's up to you though. You could really mess something up.
