FSX CFG tweaks for smoother flights and less stuttering?

Recommended Posts

FSX is stuttering, slow to load and although very rarely has crashed. Are there any CFG tweaks to speed up texture loading, and less stutters and lag spikes. It ruins the joy in flight and I would be grateful for any suggestions?

The AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide will provide tweaks to your fsx.cfg and graphic card settings and discusses the various tweaks beginning on page 5.  There are no tweaks to speed up texture loading other than lowering your settings in both the fsx.cfg and display driver settings.  FSX/Acceleration (or FSX-SE) has DX10 Preview technology that might help as it has been proven to provide better performance by 10%.  You should also get the DX10 Fixer which has many more tweaks that might help you.

Depends on how far you want to go; as our very own Jim Young has said; go with the AVSIM FSX Guide - you won't go wrong.

If you want to take it further and go down the rabbit hole then you'll need to tweak from your OS down. Here's the bible;

Do EVERYTHING it says for pure flight simming delight.

How are my specs for running fsx? i3 3.3ghz dual core

gtx1050

4gb ram

You're not going to get eye-candy heaven with those specs that's for sure but it's a start. So try it out - use the Avsim FSX Guide as advised, here's the direct link;

 and, if simming is for you then later on you can build your tower of wonder, bankrupt yourself in the process but ultimately end up a happy flyer!

Ugg... with vanilla FSX on medium or lower settings, you'll be ok, but top tier graphics are not in your future with those specs.

Not that great.  Turn off all shadows and light bloom, AI traffic, especially road traffic, set to zero, scenery sliders set to the left.  Slowly move the sliders towards their mid-points, testing after each adjustment.  I'd keep the road traffic at zero, it is a real performance drag.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Billkhaled,

If this is a 64 bit system, I would suggest 4 more GB of ram. That way FSX can use the full 4gb it is capable of. As well as your computer running better, anyway.

I have run default FSX on a laptop with a slower i3 and much less graphics capability with most settings high (you just have to find the right ones) without stuttering.

Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
