First, make sure First Offer mode is available but not active for your flight (The button will be red). If you are flying IFR then switch to First Officer mode and your FO will do his best to keep up with ATC when in time accelerated mode. There are also P3d key commands that can instantaneously change the sim rate.

Thank you for the tips.

Does it work ok with the PMDG time compression for long hauls?

I would think it necessary on certain points in a long haul flight to contact yourself and switch off FO mode?

The FO will handle all comm with ATC but one can switch it off if needed. You still are the PIC and fly the aircraft.

Lorby also makes a freeware add-on that automatically slows down the sim rate to normal at each waypoint in your flightplan. It then returns to your designated higher sim rate. I didn't suggest that because I've never used it.
