Overclocking GTX970?

I OCd my CPU but never thought about OCing graphics card. Now I watched some Youtube videos and apparently it's very easy to OC GTX970 with MSi Afterburner for example. I'm wondering, would this actually have any noticeable effect on P3D v4 performance at all regarding FPS?

I have never OC any of  Nvidia cards as I do not believe it will have any noticeable effect. If your CPU is already the bottleneck, as it is in most system, you will not gain anything from it. At the best you could maybe get a few extra FPS, it all depends on your overall system.

I've overclocked my 970 but still use an old i5 2500k CPU, so no gain in P3D. In other games I see a good performance boost though.

Even went as far as flashing a modified bios. Not for the faint of heart 🙂

I run a 2700 CPU overclocked to 4.8 Ghz with all cores (4+4) activated. To carry through that speed throughout the system I have max overclocked my 8g of ram and GTX 1080 using the (the latest version of the) MSI Afterburner utility. I run P3D V4.3 with most scenery, AI and aircraft addons, with most sliders advanced hard right.

Performance is excellent. Yes you can overclock the GPU without problems or drama.

Stats as follows:

CPU Clock: 4.8

CPU Usage 100% all cores

Max CPU temperature: 72C

GPU: GTX 1080 Founders Edition

Driver: 398.82

GPU Core Clock: 2088

GPU Memory Clock: 5400

GPU Power: 120%

GOU Max operational Temp: 66C

Monitor: 55 inch curved screen @ 4K 

This is not the latest or fastest machine these days but frames run from mid 20s to high 60s with little stuttering or problems with 4K HD TV. Loving it.

PS: The new San Diego is great with all the ORBX areas, but do not like the photo-real in the surrounding area. I would rather have the previous autogen.

Many years ago I dabbled in overclocking Nvidia graphics cards.  There seemed to be little gained other than extra heat generated.
