Check out BJ Marten’s “Cold & Dark to Taxi Ready” videos

Recommended Posts

My original post on this subject was deleted by the moderators because it contained a link. I am re-posting without the link and am instead providing instructions on how to find the videos.

I discovered these “Cold & Dark to Taxi Ready” videos a little over a month ago and have been following his YouTube posts ever since. He creates these videos to help refresh himself about the startup procedures when he’s not flown an aircraft for awhile. His hangar includes both GA, such as the MilViz DHC3 Turbo, and commercial airliners, such as the Maddog MD-80. He has kindly posted his videos for all of us to utilize. These are not home movies; they are very professionally done.

Given the large number of planes I have, and how infrequently I get to fly some of them, I have found these videos extremely helpful. And it doesn’t hurt that his hangar mirrors my own.

I was disappointed to see that he has only 12 subscribers as of today [8/19/18 was the date of the original post], and a low number of overall views. I fear that his channel has been lost amongst all the cat videos and the like. I am posting to call everyone’s attention to his helpful videos, to give his channel a boost, and, selfishly, to encourage him to keep making them.

Do check them out. I think you’ll find them worthwhile. I sure did.

You can locate them by searching on YouTube for "BJ Marten."

I see BJ Marten has 51 subscribers now instead of 12.  Good work Robert.

in this specific case it linked to a subscription page not a video - this against Avsim policy.

Also all videos should be embedded not just a link.

Rather than entertain a further discussion I suggest checking the Avsim TOS.

If we continue the discussion of the merits of the videos the thread will stay open......

I checked the Q400 video (it's the only plane I fly) and it's a good video indeed, with nice extra information. I do certain things differently but that's okay, of course. 😉 I personally don't think video's are the way to go whenever you want to get back into a plane you haven't flown for a while, I prefer 'to-do lists' on paper because I simply can't remember everything that's being shown in a video, but this video will certainly help someone who is new to the Q400, specially because it shows you where things are, something a paper list doesn't do. 😉 Whenever I buy one of the other planes he has made a video for I will certainly check his channel out again.

I’m glad to see that so many have checked out these video tutorials, found them to be worthwhile, and subscribed to the channel. BJ Marten’s subscriptions, which numbered 12 on 8/19/18, presently stand at 61.

I hope your show of support will ensure that he continues to produce these helpful videos.

Thanks for the kind comments I’ve received for having posted about these videos. It’s nice to know that others appreciate them as well.

Topic locked as we have some who are inciting/trolling our membership because of AVSIM policies.  Moderators are here to enforce AVSIM rules and policies.  Please do not disrespect our moderators for trying to enforce a rule.

Links to YouTube subscriptions will be allowed temporarily.  AVSIM has always had a policy of educating our membership with helpful videos on how to accomplish a task.  We would rather have the videos embedded in the AVSIM Video Forum but, if members would rather post a link to a site containing many videos they think will help our membership, this will be allowed.  Videos have to be related to flight simulation and the topic can be posted in the appropriate forum.  Be wary of our policy of no pornography.  Links to pornography will result in an immediate ban.  AVSIM will not be responsible for inappropriate content that might be seen at these video subscription sites.

Thanks for your cooperation.
