enable realistic startup in P3D v4

Recommended Posts

Noticed that Carenado has the option for a realistic engine start (P3D4v) in the cfg file, but commented these lines for some reason out.

If you change it the following way you will have a nice slow spool up with basically no RPM and torque overshoot.  Engine response will be a faster as well.

[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain.0 = 35, 0.001
fuel_flow_gain.1 = 40, 0.008
fuel_flow_gain.2 = 65,  0.01
fuel_flow_gain.3 = 69,  0.04
//fuel_flow_gain          = 0.03

Cool thank you. Any idea if this would work for Carenados other turbo props?

Yes, but you have to carefully adjust those RPM/fuel flow values for each aircraft/engine/prop combination by experimenting.

Great thanks 🙏

Any idea if these values work on other turboprops?

Obviously the values will need tweaking but I have other Aircraft that need this attention too.

This works with all turboprops in P3Dv4. The last value should be the RPM just a tad below idle.

Check the actual idle RPM and use this value (or a tad below idle) for the last line. It determines the engine acceleration during flight.

With the other values you can experiment to achieve the desired spool up speed and smoothness.

You can even add a 5th line if needed.

Hope this helps 🙂

Just tried it on the Turbo Commander 690.

Watched a video online from a real one and matched the startup rotation rate.

Worked like a treat.

Awesome thanks.

hi, where and what lines, values, you added to the aircraft.cfg in the 690B? for testing too,

Just tried and you can use the values from the 360 🙂

Simple delete the single fuel_flow_scalar line and exchange it with the 4 lines from the 360.

Stoopid question - I have the do228 - but if this potentially improves realism, why did they comment them out ?

Are they deliberately dumbing it down ?

No. Just checked and when you install the P3D version the cfg file is the correct version. I'd assume that they initially simply forgot to exchange the FSX cfg in the P3D package.

OK, I'll check it out on my Carry twins.

Kudos to you guys for spotting and sorting !

Cheers.

Daft question, but is that bottom line meant to be still commented out ?

Thnx again.
