So the Lorby Addon Manager uses the XML method correct? And, in doing so, I would no longer need to worry about re-installing scenery every time a new version of P3D comes out?

Well, yes and no. Installing the addons correctly outside of your simulator is still your job. The Addon Organizer (P4AO for short)  will only create/manage the XML files for you.

If you install an addon the "classic" way, plonking it right into the main simulator directory, then there is nothing that the P4AO can do. It is impossible to "pull out" addons that have aready overwritten default files or placed their own content everywhere.

Before you start using one of the two "XML methods" I suggest that you read up on how they work and how they are best applied to your usage scenario. There are many ways to do the same thing.

A good strategy is to pool your addons, to combine a number of them into the same XML file, keep the sheer number of XMLs down. For example, many people create aircraft addon packages by developer, adding every Carenado to one XML, JustFlight to another and Freeware etc. to a third. Scenery is best bundled by country or continent. AI traffic addons should be bundled in their own XML, as should texture replacements (like REX), shader replacements or bigger scenery packages (like UTx). That way you can enable/disable a bunch of them at the same time, for example to switch between UTL and MyTraffic or different shader mods simply by changing a single checkbox (or making a doubleclick in P4AO).
