FSX-SE Braniff (Jellybean) B727 - Aspen to Denver

Braniff Airways was remarkable in many ways. During its long existence (1928 to 1982), it operated an amazing range of aircraft: from Lockheed Vega all the way to the Aerospatiale-BAC Concorde. It also introduced dramatic colors on many of its aircraft (referred to as the Jellybean fleet).

Here is Jellybean (Red) Boeing 727 flying the route from KASE (Aspen) to Denver (KDEN) at dawn. Instead of the (AS) CRJ's (advanced) glass cockpit previously used on the same route, this time it is the vintage steam-gauged Boeing 727 cockpit. However, thanks to HaraldG,...🙂...who suggested that the B727 be equipped with INS navigational equipment, it is fitted with a (custom) CIVA INS (single unit, though) to reduce pilot workload. Thanks for viewing the images of this iconic aircraft that could be replaced only by the equally illustrious B737. [CS/MSE/REX]

Nice presentation and nice-looking plane. Glad I got to fly on Braniff at least once. But it was Flying Colors, not Jellybean.

Thanks, John! It's great that, you, at least, had a chance to fly in Braniff once. Was it their DC-8? I was just curious... That plane is, of course, another piece of history.

727-100 from Houston to O'Hare. Leather seats. Roast corn on the cob for lunch. It was a bit out of the ordinary!

The good old days....now lucky to get Peanut packs in the economy...often not....🙂...BTW, I forgot to say that I've only CS 727-100 (not their 727-200 variant)..so the pictures would match the plane you actually took....Thanks.

Ah, yes, there it is! Beautiful pictures (green landscape comes to life with that red plane above). Nice to see that INS leading you safely to your destination.

I get more and more eager to fly with the 727-100 myself again, after abandoning the legendary Dreamfleet 727 with custom dual INS setup years ago. Seems that I forgot all procedures since then...

Loved the colors of Braniff, the one airline I never flew on, flew on almost every other major airline since the 60's and a few foreign majors as well--British Airways, Lufthansa, Austrian, Avensa, Taesa, Mexicana, and Air Canada

Fantastic Memories,I remember seeing these colorful liveries in late '60's at Chicago's O'Hare  Airport,those day's you could walk all the way to the flight gate without a ticket to see your friend or relative off.

Thanks! Unlike me, folks have moved on (from FSX) to newer and faster things, so you could look for what choices currently available to you if you are specifically interested in a good (PW) 727-100. I agree it's refreshing to fly this kind of SIMs once in a while. CS is still only FSX/SE/P3D2/3. But, at least, FW (CIVA) INS information (for single/dual/triple configurations) is now readily available, that's not an issue, although it has to be tested with PW aircraft (that does not already come w/ INS) to ensure compatibility. Yes, Dreamfleet 727 was a trend-setter for such aircraft simulation. Good-luck!
