"its gone awful quiet on this side!!!!"

Boy I'll say! hehe.

The event below is not really related except for this does look like a Turbo Commander (and Bob's plane was a recip Commander naturally)....

For anyone fortunate enough to see Bob Hoover perform in his Shrike Commander, you probably were as amazed as I was at how much wind noise the plane made as he passed by show center in his famous "Energy Management" demonstration...which of course starts with him cutting both engines, then commence to doing a series of aerobatic maneuvers with the engines completely shut down and feathered, only to finish doing a long landing, touching and holding on one main wheel, then the other for a bit, then gently down on all wheels, and finally coasting to a stop exactly on the spot he started.

Probably the best areal showman that ever lived...may he rest in peace.

Steve Dra

Steve,

Having been in the Royal Australian Air Force for many years, I have seen some incredible aerobatics and low flying, Particularly at 2 Flying Training School where the instructors performed at the graduation parades of the new pilots.

However, Bob Hoover was very well known for his flying skills and if you have seen him do his "thing" then I can only envy you.

As you say "May he rest in peace" A truly remarkable gentleman.

i like the twist on the prop blade

Not sure about you guys, but when I'm that high in the air, a pretty twist in the blade is not something I would like to see!

At least you have plenty of altitude to work with!

Every time I see a Shrike Commander it reminds me of the incredible performances by Bob Hoover. I was lucky enough to see him perform on two occassions, both times at the Abbotsford Airshow. That was many, many years ago, but it still stands out in my memory like yesterday.
