P3Dv4.3: Texture loading progressively deteriorating

Hello,

I've had my computer for more than two years and in my last couple of flights, texture loading has deteriorated as time progresses.  I have not made any changes to my system.  Everything was fine during takeoff, climb, and cruise, but the problem began around descent each time.  I made this landing video of my most recent flight to demonstrate.  The blurring is very evident on the terrain textures.  At the bottom of the video, I pasted my p3d.cfg file, in case that helps.  Also, my specs are listed under my signature.

4.3 does not run well with unlimited fps set. There are several threads about it in here. The texture issue is a known symptom of that.

Well, I've tested all different graphics settings in P3D, and I found the very best setting for my system (and 7 other systems I've recently helped set up... each one different) VSync On, Unlimited FPS, and Triple Buffering selected.  Recently I stared using NVIDIA Inspector to limit the FPS externally, but this was for a very specific reason (testing an upcoming changes to 4 different payware aircraft).  Nothing matches the overall quality of these settings on my system.

SYSTEM SPECS

i7-4770k o/c to 4.5GHz, 16GB RAM

GTX 1080, 11GB VRAM, pushing one 55-inch 4K monitor and three 22-inch monitors.

All I will say is that there is mountains of test data in two separate, massive threads right here on avsim that are conclusive in terms of blurries as a result of unlimited frames set in p3d 4.3.

Suggestive, not conclusive.

Like Dave outlines above, I also run unlimited fps, with vsync on and a 30Hz monitor, so I'd surmise that the vsync is having the same effect as a soft frame rate limit.  No blurries.

For the OP, if you're running GSX, make sure you have run Live Update within the last day or so.  There was a bug causing the kind of issue you're describing, particularly on systems with a lot of installed sceneries.

I agree. 30 Hz monitor, fps unlimited, VSync and TB on in sim. Crystal clear landclass-based scenery, even in a few (rare) areas where I had blurries up to versions 3.x. Photo scenery (France VFR) tends to be more blurry, but according to several threads at the LM forums this seems to have other causes than the fps setting (and remains blurry if I limit fps internally, which I tried).

I should add this is low and slow. I can't speak for the big iron. Plus, I have stuff like AS running over a networked machine. No panel on display, using a hardware panel driven networked as well. No AM used, HT on, process priority of prepar3d set to "high".

I'm running exactly the same config with the same spec machine as Dave with no blurred texture issues.

Thanks all!  I'm going with v-syn on, triple buffering, and unlimited FPS.  I use a 4K monitor and resolution, so I never use AA. 

I'll get back to you on results.  I just found it odd that the problem recently started and can't figure out why.

Use realistic settings for textures, autogen and scenery complexity etc.  Not one of my sliders are at max

Testing is the best way to find the settings that performs the best in your system. In my opinion, there's no a definitive rule regarding using unlimited/limited FPS, for instance. On my system, I've found limited FPS are better to avoid stuttering and having a decent simulation rate, very fluid most of the time.

There's an utility I've been using that definitively helps to make your sim more fluid and avoid blurries at the same time. Google for "FFTF Dynamic for P3Dv4" and read about it. For me it works quite well.

I tend to keep autogen normal, no dynamic vegetation, etc.  I've been happy with the performance since I started using P3Dv4.  The deteriorating texture load only started a few days ago, but I hope to solve it with the recommendations I've received.  I can't pinpoint why it started so suddenly without me making prior changes.
