Massive Stutters, but high FPS

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys.

I have just build a new computer for P3D, but I am suffering very extensive stuttering even though I have 60+ FPS. Could anyone give some advise/suggestions on why this happends?

The PC specs: ASUS Maximus Hero 10 MOBO, i7-8700K 3.7 GHz CPU, 16 GB DDR4 PC300 RAM, M2 SSD HDD 1, for windows 7, one for P3D - only the GPU is an old GFX 670 as I am waiting to see if it would be worth getting the new GPU from Nvidia or "just" go with a 1080Ti. I have not yet overclocked anything.

I was aware that I would not have very high FPS without OC´ed CPU and the old GFX GPU, but even if I have 45 - 60 frames, on some airports, I can still experience severe stutters. Sometimes if I change the view the stutters stops, and then when looking "back" again, it starts again, as if there is something in that specific view that causes the stutters.

Also if seems that P3D "builds up" the graphics - example could be when changing to spotplane view, the when changing you will not see the aircraft, then comes first the interior, then maybe wings, then fuselage until the aircraft is complete. All this takes maybe a 1 - 3 seconds.

I have tried to play with sliders/options, but nothing seems to help.

Hope someone could have a clue on where to look for the problem.

Best Regards
Bjarne Sorensen

First, try with fps limited to 30.

You don't need high fps, you need smoothness.

Couldn't agree more. Even if you have a constant FPS of 20, your sim could look very fluid, and that's the goal.

hi,

First thing, your GPU is your bottleneck and can't process all data your strong CPU is throwing.

For troubleshooting purpose, Try this:

1. If you are using NVI (NVidia Inspector), return to default for P3D

2. P3D display settings, OPTIONS / DISPLAY: Set AA to 4xMSAA

3. P3D display settings, OPTIONS / WORLD: Special Effects sliders not higher than MEDIUM

4. P3D display settings, OPTIONS / LIGHTING: Turn OFF (untick) HDR

5. P3D display settings, OPTIONS / LIGHTING: Turn OFF (untick) Dynamic Lighting, and Dynamic Reflections to OFF (slider all left)

6. P3D display settings, OPTIONS / LIGHTING: Untick all CAST & RECEIVE Shadows. You can have the Internal & External vehicle enabled for both cast and receive.

7. P3D display settings, OPTIONS / LIGHTING: Shadow quality, sliders not higher the HIGH

I agree with this 100%. Your GPU is the bottleneck and all the recommendations above are to turn off the GPU-intensive effects in P3D. In addition, if you use 4096 cloud textures, reduce this to 2048 or even lower.

Just as a reference, I have a fast CPU (i9 7900X clocked @ 5.0 GHz) and 3 Titan Pascal GPUs.... if I start messing around with the GPU-intensive sliders above, my GPU utilization goes to 100%. As opposed to the CPU utilization, having your GPU at 100% is never a good thing.

What tool do you use to measure CPU (not the TASK MANAGER which is an average of all your cores - P3D focuses on a single CPU with others as support) and GPU utilization?

Here I use 2 1080Ti OC in SLI but I never see 100% load. Just tried with everything open and Maxed at Schiphol with AI...

I run 3X 85 inch screens in 4k... Did you try 4096 cloud textures and high AA? Just like you, I only run P3D for the visuals. And I avoid any extra candy like reflections and special effects. I find those a waste of resources. Also, my 3 Titan Pascals are in non-sli mode

+1 I just upgraded from a GTX970 to 1080Ti and my stutters are pretty much gone.
