2080 2080Ti full review.

Recommended Posts

I would wait 6 months by then all the talk will be about the next gen Nvidia GPUs which is no secret on the smaller die size, then it`s possible you will see discounting on the 20 series AIB partner cards, as users hold off to get the fastest GPU coming from Nvidia next gen.

Review of the MSI RTX 2080 Ti Duke

Base on Guru3D review data, I'm seeing some impressive increase at 4K relative for the 2080Ti vs. TitanXP (similar price point) based on that review even with older games and no DLSS or ray tracing.

+15.90% 3DMrk FireStrike - Ultra
+36.20% 3DMark Time Spy
+44.39% 3DMark Time Spy  Graphics Score

Average percent increase for "games": 29.58%

2080Ti vs. 1080Ti

+50.68% BF1
+41.66% Tomb Raider
+41.30% Deus Ex
+29.57% Strange Brigade
+41.50% Far Cry 5
+38.23% F1 2018
+39.62% Shadow of War
+35.18% Ghost Recon Wildlands

+59.07% Unigine 2 Super Position
+23.71% 3DMrk FireStrike - Ultra
+41.70% 3DMark Time Spy
+54.51% 3DMark Time Spy  Graphics Score

Average percent increase for "games": 39.71%

Can't wait to see how my flight simulators do (P3D, XP11, AF2) ... I'll make sure I'm using GPU intensive graphics options and careful not to be excessively CPU bound (aka no AI traffic, no road/ship traffic, light weight aircraft, etc.).

In the mean time all that has been delivered so far are these NVLinks ... they just need to find a home on a couple of GPUs 🙂

MSI do a good job in clocking and cooling the cards, 1 and half kilos is heavy I think a support will be needed.

Have you seen the interview with the Nvidia guys who had a hand in designing the cards on Gamers Nexus, and explain the one click overclock.

I've pre-ordered a couple of these EK water blocks with backing plates:

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-vector-rtx-2080-ti-rgb-nickel-plexi

Unfortunately ship date is Oct 10th-15th so initial testing will be on air only cooling.  Once the water  blocks arrive I'll start the OC process, based on what I've seen so far, it seems these cards overclock fairly well.

Cheers, Rob.

Yes, NVLink is considerably better than the old SLI bridge ... nVidia indicated they are going to put more work into "SLI" configurations (which is why I opt'd for two GPUs) and based on Jay's tests two 2080Ti scaled very well at 4K res.  Unfortunately I don't think XP11 or AF2 works with multiple GPUs so it'll be a P3D only test for SLI.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob,

Are you planning on doing any single gpu P3D tests before testing with dual GPUs?

I'm very interested in the 2080i primarily because I want to run P3D at UHD once FS Labs have released 64-bit Concorde.

Is it reasonable to assume it will easily outperform a 1080i at that resolution irrespective of any Ray Tracing code that is later added by L-M?

Yes, I’ll be testing single and multiple 2080Ti’s.

Can’t wait to see the results Rob. I can’t help but feel that you’re going to be able to max every graphics setting and only be limited by CPU related settings (AI/auto gen etc)

Which makes the 9900 all the more significant if it overclocks  into the mid 5s

Those SLI results look promising. What that means for P3D, I have no idea, but to see some of those games getting double FPS is exciting.  Cost arguments aside some of those results weren’t feasible for a consumer before these cards as far as I know.

Rob any chance you’ll be able to test 3 4K views with those an SLI 🙂 I am guessing DAL213 and his set up will try it but he doesn’t use a virtual cockpit.

Anyway, I am still thinking triple 4K will be possible at 30 FPS in almost all situations without sacrificing too much on the sliders. Or maybe the new i9-9900k will put it over the top...

Ray, According to this review the 2080i will outperform the 1080ti but the 2080 is only slightly better than the 1080ti with a UHD monitor and current games not accounting for future advantages of ray tracing, dlss, and whatever else. They did not test P3Dv4 though so I would wait for Rob's and Westman's tests for that (glad to hear Rob will be testing his new cards in single GPU mode).

I bit the bullet a few months ago and got a 1080ti because heavy weather was pegging my 780gtx in 4k. I can tell you that I have never seen the 10080ti above 60% GPU usage, however I am still on a 3770k @4.5 ghz so that it probably bottlenecking the amount of data that can even get to the GPU. I run conservative medium settings to maintain a 30 FPS. After I upgrade the rest of my system I may be wanting a more powerful GPU. To quote Nick Needham, "I am back on the hardware hamster wheel".

I preordered the 2080 TI FE and got an email that mine is delayed and now I'm wondering if I should back out. I've been simming 4k with my 6700k @ 4.6 and trusty 980ti for over 3 years now, resisting the 1080 TI with the hope that this new generation would be worth the wait. After hearing some reviews it seems awful tempting to save $700 now by picking up a 1080 TI as a bridge to the 10nm cards that I assume will be released next year. By then P3D5 will be out and will hopefully support the technologies we aren't yet able to use in the RTX series. I am anxiously awaiting P3D-specific reviews. If I'll be able to hold a smooth 30fps with high settings in weather with dynamic lighting I'll probably keep the card, as disgusting as it is to pay $1300 for it.

Ben

I have basically idential specs to you, so I for one will be very interested to hear your results.  Make sure you post them! 🙂
