Cockpit visits in Canada?

I would assume that visiting the cockpit in Canada during a flight would not be permitted, just as in the US. Let's face it , from Canada , to the US is a pretty short flight, and a Hijacker getting in the cockpit in Canada, could easily cause a disastrous situation. They sometimes will let you visit the cickpit either before or after the flight.

In Australia it's not that difficult, as I know form my own experience! But since I do not know, if Australian pilots, who allow access to the flight deck during flight are violating a law, I will not give you more details, because the last thing I want is, that those pilots are getting difficulties with the authorities.Wolfgang

The rule with Air Canada is nobody is allowed in the cockpit without a uniform on, even pilots. So a pilot can be deadheading somewhere and even if he knows the guys in front he's not allowed up there unless he has his uniform on. This is a far cry from the old days (well, pre 9/11) when I sat up front many times for the entire flight, including landings in many instances. Too bad....billg

Air Canada is certainly the wrong airline to try that in - too much beurocracy lol! You'd be better off on a small carrier, I doubt any major airline would allow it.

You won't get anywhere trying to visit the cockpit, I'm sure, but while in Ottawa it's worth checking out the Canada Aviation Musum if you have the time.http://www.aviation.technomuses.ca/BlairCYOW

2 Weeks ago I boarded an Air Canada A320 from Toronto to Orlando, when I stepped on the plane, I asked the flight attendant if I could talk to the captain for a minute, she asked him, and he said Sure, come on up.Upon entering the cockpit, I asked him and the FO, If I could write down a copy of the flight plan, so I could fly the flight when I get home, they tore of the sheet with the flight plan listed and gave it to me. They also allowed me to hang around for a few minutes and snap up what pictures I wanted to take.Once we were pushing back, that door was locked until we were back at the gate in Orlando.Too bad the world is like this now, I sat for 2 flights in the jumpseat of a 757 for 2 entire flights, that will never happen again.

The only time I was allowed to go visit the cockpit was on a British Airways 747, going from London to Nairobi. I have to admit that was quite an experience, but it was back in 1994. Since then, the closest I have been to the cockpit during that flight is the toilet just down the isle. :D Sorry man, but different times now...

Well pre 9/11 I was very fortunate to have had 5 landings and a takeoff aboard Air Canada DC9's, one landing in a 767-200 and one in a 319. This all happened in the span of 18months and found the crews very friendly and accommodating. Those days unfortunately are over and like others said no one is allowed up front during flight anymore. It probably is possible to still have a tour while on the ground but not 100% sure on that.Chris

Hey Johan:One method that seems to work often is to say you're a fearful flyer and would feel much better if you could see the captain and ask him some questions. :-lol They treat you like royalty, and I've never been rejected doing that. At one time it was true, not so much anymore... Anyways, doing this might get you pre-boarded in the plane, and a friend reported they even let him punch in the changes to the route on the FMC (monitored by the captain, of course). This was in Delta. I've gotten into the cockpit on American, spoke to the captain, asked questions... It was nice. Usually NWA is a good airline to talk to the pilots. Though, ten again they do have some pilots that are complete ********. It was fun visiting the cockpit of the Saab340 I flew on from KPIA-KMSP. The pilots were awesome. And we sure did have a good looking F/A on that flight :(
