How will 747 custom aircraft states work with GFO?

This is probably a Kyle question...

Seeing the new (greyed out) options in the 747-8 ACARS menu has certainly whetted my appetite for the upcoming GFO and what it will bring.

However, I was wondering how custom aircraft settings will work when we start sharing aircraft between users with GFO.

For instance: I am running the Atlas Air 744F N475MC using the livery and airline-specific options downloaded through the OC. I keep all the aircraft specific settings as provided with two exceptions: I add an RMI to the main panel, and change the flight director to from cross hairs to V-Bar.

When GFO is implemented, if I were to check this aircraft back in after a flight, would the next person to check it out inherit the custom changes I made?

It’s quite possible that the next pilot might want the default cross-hair FD and no RMI. Since it is my understanding that GFO will save a checked-in aircraft in the exact state that the previous pilot left it re: switch positions etc, I wasn’t sure if specific customizations made through the PMDG Options menu transfer as well.

When the aircraft is checked back it's configuration will be reset to whatever it was when you checked it out, as far as aircraft options go.  However, if someone shuts down an aircraft and does something like turn off the engine driven hydraulic pumps then when you get it those pumps are gonna be off.

this is picky now.. but when I use the Collins MCP in the 737 although normally the Honeywell would be installed... And I leave the FD switches on, will the Honeywell MCP have its FDs on too? Yes I know... those annoing customers xD but there are several things that can be changed, even more on the 747..

Makes sense. So if the aircraft had cross-hair FD when I received it, and I change it to V-bar for my own flight, it will go back to cross-hair when I check it back in. Seems a good way to handle it. Thanks

Good question. Dan handled it well, but I'll add:

We back up a number of configurations on your end when you check a plane out. You use the plane as the last person left it, in the 'official' setup (where possible, we use the real world config - you may change this for your flight if you'd like). When you check the plane back in, we nuke the config.ini to be sure nobody messes with the official config, restore yours, and upload the panel state to the server (restoring your default panel state settings, etc. in the process).
