That is humor, and it's strictly verboten.  Heh.

Not true at all. I only fly Prepar3d and so  Fun or Entertainment have been verboten for years. It's in the EULA. I think humor would be counted as fun.

My only bit of aviation humor is what happened in Jackson Hole in 99.  I was still on our United 737 waiting to deplane, having used the facilities, I came out and while walking up the aisle I was slammed into the seats by a crash of some kind, did not know what happened.  I got up and looked out the other side of the aircraft and saw a baggage shuttle penetrating the fuse on the starboard side of the aircraft.  I left the aircraft and while waiting for my partner to come in on a flight from Salt Lake City, I listened to the angry passengers who wanted to, but could not fly back to Denver on the damaged plane.  I told the gate agents I was on the aircraft when it was hit, and tried to console them, being a hotelier I understood their anguish.  My partner arrived and we went to our client for a week.

When it was time to go home I decided I would play a joke on the gate agents, I came up to the counter rubbing my neck, complaining of whiplash from the accident.  They first scowled at me, then they got the joke and we laughed and laughed.  There was no record of the accident in the NTSB logs, I looked and looked for years after, but found nothing, it happened in 1999.  I was angry since I was a passenger on board and it hurt when I fell into the row of seats when the baggage truck hit us.  The aircraft was ferried back to Denver by the pilots on Oxygen, due to the compromised fuse.

I still say Tom would have said "GOOD GRIEF"

As he had before....

Good thing his picture is still looking out over all of this, the good will prevail as always 😎

Perceived problem is corrected.  Please read the revised description for Hangar Chat.

The beef on this is the policy change, wasn't necessary.....GOOD GRIEF

So, we are not supposed to be friends that can talk about anything else besides aviation?

So to ask any questions like:

"Hey Matthew, how ya doin way down there in NZ? Miss the winters here in Canada?"...

are now deemed to be out of order here in Hangar Chat?

Well OK then, in case I'm wrong, just to be on the safe side:

Matthew:

Airplanes, do you still like them?

 Just trying to lighten things up a bit (as airplanes and hot-air balloons tend to do).

Kind regards,

As it stands now, only if it has wings and can fly.  I has been thoroughly discussed and hashed about and will be brought before the Board of Directors shortly for final consideration.

Sure do Stephen, and yes I miss Canada too. I've been doing a lot of WestJet flights on the sim lately to revisit the old stomping grounds 😎

Ya know, a forum like Hangar Chat that has been around for years becomes a meeting place for members who have been around for years and have become friends who know each other.  Hangar Chat is an international community of friends who hang around not only because of aviation and flight simulation but because of camaraderie that has developed between us like Stephan and Matthew.  Why do you want to destroy that?

If you restrict the topics in Hangar Chat to simply aviation and flight simming you have melted the glue that holds these friendships together and they will soon drift apart because they will have no place else to go.

You might as well go whole hog and change the name of the forum to 'Aviation and Flightsim topics not covered in other forums' because you have taken away the chat aspect.

I would suggest that instead of a board meeting you hold an election of the forum rats who inhabit Hangar Chat and see what they want.  After all, AVSIM is for us isn't it?

Exactly Noel. And I also agree that anyone who has sat around a hangar on a windy, rainy day would know that we didn't just talk about "airplane stuff", What's the fun in that? The day would be full of  bragging about the women we've known (sorry Sue), lying about the women we've known, and talking about almost any topic you could imagine. I'll bet that 80% of everything said had nothing to do with flying machines..........Doug

In the 15 years that I have been a member of Avsim, there has never been a restriction in the Hangar Chat forum header limiting discussions to only topics directly related to aviation, and I believe it is a mistake to do so now. That kind of goes against the very notion of what the phrase “hangar chat” means to anyone who is associated with aviation.

I’m not saying that H.C. should be used to host a 20-page thread on on the “best blueberry muffin recipes” and of course, topics that drift into open hostility or abuse, or touchy subjects like politics or religion should still be subject to moderation or closure.

But, let’s not become overly controlling and bureaucratic regarding a part of our online community that by its nature is supposed to be a place for informal banter on topics that don’t fit in any specific category.

JR Barrett   your opinion appears to have been well thought out and very well stated.  I would think that responses such as yours will be discussed at the board meeting.

I also think that, as long as the Boss is reading these posts.

@ Everyone:  I was merely trying to enlighten folks about what's going on.
