Oh Oh! I did something bad! Help

I was getting ridiculously lousy framerates recently so I decided to experiment with some different video drivers. I'm using ATI drivers and have used Omega drivers as well. (Was flying Tongass Fjords before seeing the frame rate patch. should have waited)So I removed the ATI driver I had using "Remove Programs" and when I attemped to install another Omega driver, I had an error message: "Cannot copy atiicdxx.ini file". After some frustration, I restored my computer to an earlier date. Then I installed the latest driver from ATI without any error messages. Now, when launching FS9, I get the error message : "Video not supported". What am I missing and if I can find it (possibly on the original driver disk) where does it go? Any other associated files go with it?Appreciate the help.Jim

Is FS9 the only 3D app/game that throws a video error? Delete the FS9.cfg configuration file to make sure you're using stock default settings. This will ensure that the game isn't trying to use old drivers and/or video settings. The FS9.cfg file will be regenerated using default settings the next time you start the game.

Thanks, but I was able to correct everything by doing a system restore a couple of days further back. Then downloaded and installed the latest ATI drivers and frame rates were between 17-24 flying from the Bradley Fisheries to Ketchican (Misty Fjords), although I had a crash of FS9 which suddenly went to a black screen whle approaching the Tongass Narrows.Well, things are better for now, although I do need to upgrade the video card.Thanks again for the suggestionJim

For future reference, you should delete all traces of your previous video card drivers before installing on top of them. Usually, simply removing them in the "Add/Remove Programs" is not sufficient as traces remain in your registry, etc.I would recommend a freeware product called "Driver Cleaner Pro" and it can be found here: http://www.drivercleaner.net/. I use it regularly before I do any updates to my video drivers.

And of couse, next time swap to nVidia, I did after getting tired of all the ATI driver problems. I had a 9800 Pro that was very ggod when it worked ... once in a blue moon. No such problems with the nVidia :-)Eagle
