Unfortunately P3Dv4 reacts not like most games and perfromance gain is always little. For 4K users it might be an improvement,.

True, but my preliminary results do seem to show it works quite well with these cards.

The older the game the less the gain.

Oh please do tell!

I think for a lot of us the deciding factor will be performance compared to the 1080ti. Here in Australia I can get 2 x  1080 TIs for the price of a single 2080 Ti. So the question to me is which combination will giver better performance, the 2 x 1080 TIs in SLI or a single 2080 Ti.

I eagerly await your reviews :)

Well, I'm not really a reviewer, so how about this: Give me your P3dv4 settings and an area and default plane, and I'll give you my framerates to compare?

My system specs are in my signature.

Do you see much improvement over the 1080TI. General impressions?

Since I don't have exact numbers from before, anything I say could be a placebo effect. That being said, for some reason Both X-plane and P3d seem to be loading faster, and both show noticeable improvements in vr.

Aerofly of course leapt for the moon, and stays pegged at 265fps with maxed settings over the Netherlands.

P3D at medium high settings ranges from 60 to 100fps over the netherlands

X-plane is variable and its hard to see exactly what's happening, but it seems to remain mostly cpu-bound, hitting from 50 to 60fps with everything maxed except water over NY and medium level clouds. Shadows, surprisingly does not hit fps too hard, but water and heavy clouds are killers and will drop me to about 45 to 50fps.

I would say as far as improvement, the scale is Aerofly, P3D, X-plane.

Hi Stephen-

Glad to hear you received your card, hope it exceeds you performance expectations.

Hey, I wanna hear about the gpu usage with regards to the percentages of usage - can you gauge what it is vs the 1080Ti in similar p3d 4.3 gpu intensive scenes?

Thanks

Ken

My name is Devon, but Stephan sounds pretty close!!! 🙂

I would likely end up having to swap the cards in and out to do that, and I dont want to risk damaging either of them, especially as I have an offer to buy the 1080ti

I will however do some pics of the usage with a few settings.

I'm sorry Devon. I have you mixed up with ....well, Stephen (Spiritflyer). :-)

Anyways, looking forward to the info you post on the subject.

WoW what a strange turn of events. We seem to have a total of one guy in all of the Prepar3d world that we know of who has managed to get a 2080 card and so far he "Devon" does not seem to be very excited about it performance. That is very interesting. It is early I know into a seemingly botched release but I keep waiting for a Cop to say "Move along there is nothing to see here".

I have to admit I’m also a little surprised by the apparent lack of reviews or feedback. I know there were issues with the cards shipping but I would have thought some keen members would have had one or two by now.

With Robs shipment delayed we could be in for a bit of a wait for old vs new comparison

From my side part of it is frustration. In Aerofly and X-plane I can get some good ideas of basic frame rate based on settings. In P3D, FPS varies so wildly from second to second that insanity and nervous breakdowns beckon.

It's clear to me now why Rob recommends locking the framerate at 30, since otherwise it's like watching a seismometer during an active quake! 😞

And hard for me to reach any firm conclusion on that sim, other than yes, there might not be much to see here, if you already have a 1080ti.

I also wonder if the sim is really using the card very well.

The good news for me is that my old 1080ti sold within hours after being listed on ebay, making the 2080ti a much more financially reasonable purchase under the circumstances. Its apparently a sellers market, as I got 11 offers in just a few hours.

The weird news is that when I came to the forum to update the status of my post in the classified ads section, I found the whole thread had been unceremoniously hidden or deleted. 😕

Sometimes, I just don't know......
