So any clues as to why the rest of your CPUs are asleep?  That's definitely NOT normal for P3D operations.

Not at all. It seems random. On some sceneries they are going all out (netherlands for instance) and on others...... Not so much.

FXAA combined with 8XSSAA will actually make the image quality worse, even at 1440p, not a matter of "Free".

Different perspectives. Maybe on a gigantic monitor, but on my little 27 inch, I only notice a difference if i'm actually looking for it. Not something I worry about.

Now, If I just happen to think of it, I might turn it off just on general principles. On the other hand, most times I won't bother, since its not one of the things that makes enough of a difference (to me) to be important.

I tried turning autogen down (or even off) and GPU use did indeed go up (Whoo-hoo?)

But actual practical frame rates went nowhere special and i'm left with my original feeling that the 2080ti really only adds the ability to turn up the eye candy (shadows, reflections, etc) while maintaining the same frame rates.

And...... For me at least, Dynamic lights are still awful!

For taxing the GPU and best use of shadows  :

use your internal shadows as always +

Cast : terrain / cliuds

Receive : Sim objects / buildings / vegetation

Shadows quality : high

Shadows draw distance : max

Now your scenery will have cloud shadows which is taxing the GPU.

You want more set objects shadows to cast....

Set weather manually to Scattered with base at 2500 ft and tops to 15000 ft .

Now you probably see the difference between a 1080 series card and a 2080 series card.

I actually tried this: Oh, and NEVER turn water to max. Actually managed to crash the monitoring program every single time.

I have to say, that is really odd (or disappointing). How is that taxing the 2080 TI 99% and down at 14 FPS??

I saw similar with my 1080 when I turned on DL and always assumed that there was something wrong somewhere with my P3D setup. Maybe it's just P3D??

Is SSAA enabled with that DL?

I usually used MSAA and attempted with settings from 4xMSAA down to zero AA at all. Didn't chance the terrible performance hit I got when I turned on DL. That was with my 1080

Wish that was me, but I only had the F/A-18c during the recent free trial, and not sure I'm gonna grab it otherwise. (Not in the habit of purchasing $80 planes, though the Persian Gulf bundle pack is tempting.......)

I was using that TRK file, though, for testing.

When you see 175fps in that sim you have to wonder how bad the code is in the ESP engine that cripples performance so much. Even half of that performance - 88fps - would be totally acceptable.

Given Nvidia are asking £1200 for the 2080i but for it to be barely any better than a previous generation card makes it a non-starter for me.

I so agree with you ... When we get to P3D using ray tracing and BPR I'll think about upgrading. Or if I can grab a Titan X or a 1080 Ti used for cheap.

To be honest I won't even consider a 2080Ti unless fps are a minimum of 50% better than a 1080Ti given the price difference between them.

As others have noticed if the GPU is only operating at a fraction of its capability and not all CPU cores are anywhere near 100% what is causing the sim to be throttled at such low fps?

Wild guess : coding optimization of the ESP engine. Not absolute answer of course but that would be my guess.
