X-plane command to stop listening

Recommended Posts

In the next x-plane version, could you please include a command to stop the copilot listening that I can allocate to a joystick button? I currently have to lift up the googles to see where to click on the interface window.

I use x-plane in VR exclusively. Unfortunately Clive will attempt to perform random commands such as “shutting down engine #1”, I guess based on background sounds. I would also like Clive to stop listening and executing commands when I speak to the cabin crew.

Thank you.

Craig.

The "NumLock" keyboard key is already used for that purpose.

Because we don't want it to screw up the Demo, with users wondering why Fo doesn't get anything they say, you have to enable the feature intentionally.

In MCE user interface, click <More option> button.

In "Advanced options" panel, enable option "NumLock mutes reco".

After that, pressing and releasing "Numlock" key stops all speech reco. Pressing and releasing a second time wakes it up. Reco is muted when the "Numlock" keyboard lights is ON.

Now if your VR gear prevents you seeing the keyboard, you can actually create a custom speech command that would toggle the "Numlock" key.

You would need to use <Voxkey> for that.

Windows menu Start->All Apps->Multi Crew X-Plane

Open the "XPlane Demo" profile, create a speech command for muting speech reco and tie it to "Numlock" key.

And you can create many other commands that seemingly FO doesn't react to that would drive the keyboard so you can have total VR immersion.

And no, you don't have to worry about accidental commands. Anything critical, like shutting engine down, "irs off" or things like that requires confirmation (FO prompts before going ahead). By default, keeping silent for a few seconds after the prompt means "No, don't do that"

Ok, that sounds good to start with. I create a custom speech command to engage numlock to make MCE stop listening. Then how do I use a speech command to switch it back on?

I just tried to do that, but it didn’t work. My other voxkey commands work but not this one. I’ll do some custom training to see if I can get it to work.

Regards,  Craig.

I’ve managed to get it to recognise “toggle Clive”. But when I press the numlock key as the keyboard command to execute, the trigger says ‘pause’. Is that correct?

Craig.

Yes, it's toggle. not "hold down". press and release once to switch between "suspended speech reco" and "resume speech reco".

When you find yourself speaking to Fo and getting no reply, assume it's suspended and just say "toggle Clive".

As part of the key assignment, you can add some feedback speech to confirm action has been performed. In Voxkey, where it says "Optional TTS speech", type something there.

Yes, I’ve done that but it doesn’t appear to be working. The numlock key on the keyboard works, but not the voxkey version. I’ll keep trying.

A commandref would be easier...

OK, will be looked at. Maybe just that specific key not accepted by Voxkey.

I assume you added your command to "XPlane Demo" vVoxkey profile,

It appears the issue is waking him up.

Youi can actually get all speech reco to be suspended. Unfortunately, it won't take any speech command after that and you'd need to either use the keyboard Numlock key or tie a joystick button (via LUA + XPUIPC) to trigger "Numlock" key press. in order to resume speech reco.

There seems to be an issue with Voxkey in the MCE for X-Plane product. Will be sorted ASAP.
