Need help: still framerate drop with new install

Recommended Posts

I had an issue somewhat like yours where after 4-5 hours my p3d would start stuttering and freezing up for a second or two every 5-10 sec. It didn't matter if I restart P3D, it would just stutter from the start. I had to actually restart my computer in order for the freezing/stutters to go away. Also, if I turned on my computer and left it on for 5 hours or so and I launched P3D, it stuttered from the start. Wound up that it was my asus AI suite program that was causing my sim to lag. None of my other games lagged like that, it was just P3D, so I have no idea what it was doing.

Have you tried to run a benchmark on a loop, like Unigine Heaven to see if the same symptoms pop up?  I have found that some benchmarks are great at finding hardware issues pretty quickly.  This benchmark will do a good job of pushing your system in a similar fashion as P3D.

This morning I had Unigine Heaven run for 1.5h and saw no decrease in FPS :

What driver version do you use and do you have any settings that differ from the normal global driver setup for P3D?

At this moment 4.11.70 . Tried the 5 latest versions.

When framerate is low the cpu and gpu seem to stay at their performance levels ( frequencies ).

I am thinking of buyjng Aida 64 to test every part of the system.

Anyone has experience with this utility ?

use aida 64 extreme its good , you can try the free version first

a very good app is Cinebench R15 its free , run  cpu test (multitread) and single core test ( click on file and enable advanced benchmark)  you see on the score if you have problems.

its no avx in CB15 but it tax the cpu hard, as you now its some avx instruktions in P3D.

You now after runing Heaven that its no problem with the GPU , that bench is very easy on the cpu

good luck

I hope that the nVIDIA Driver is smart enough to disable G-Sync for people like you that do not have G-Sync monitors? I would check that.

Then: did you run your test on a single monitor? Might be that there is still something wrong with your multimonitor setup.

G sync is disabled. Last week I also made a flight with 1 monitor and 2  with 2 monitors in NvSurround ( 3rd monitor off ). Thanks for the suggestion.

Found this on the IN :

"Weird FPS drop over time. Game opens and I get 200+ FPS and clear image. Randomly over time that'll drop to 60-70 FPS with a very clear "blurriness".

Solution in that Topic :

"I had the exact same problem with my 1070, game got more blurried for each mission and the fps went to word not allowed. However I found the solution! There is an option called Dynamic Resolution mine was set to automatic and when I turned it OFF everything went back to normal. I would also recommend turning off Nvidia PhysX since that makes the fps unstable for some reason."

+

"Some update apparently word not allowed WF on certain Geforce 10 series cards, my 1050Ti suffers from it as well. I would start at around 140fps and slowly over time it would slow down to 20 fps and the lowest at one point was 9 fps. There's some kind of memory leak that apparently has been around for quite some time. To fix it try turning off Nvidia PhysX effects, that's what fixed it for me."

Not sure if this has anything to do with my issue. I do not use DSR at all. Will check the setting though.

Do they talk about turning off nVIDIA physX globally or just for P3D? Never thought of that, I have it active and have no issues at all.

Yesterday evening and this morning I did some tests with Aida64. The cpu - fpu - mem - cache test passed without any issues. Also the Disks test and GPU test passed without any issues.

So it seems that my hardware is ok. All drivers are up to date.

As W10 updates itself I cannot check whether or not some update is causing this. No extreme load casued by certain processes though.

The only thing that I can do is uninstall FT Amsterdam ( only addon installed ) and try again.

I know that you have checked all other processes running, I used to manually shut stuff down....and then I installed Avast Cleanup which you can set up to automatically stop programs running in the background, so for example if you open and close an Excel spreadsheet it wakes up Excel and then puts it back to "sleep" when you close it. For some reason Prepar3d now runs smoother and faster. Even though I was shutting down processes manually I have to assume that Avast Cleanup is doing something more comprehensively. The biggest change is smoothness rather than decreasing frame rate but I thought I would mention it. My PC is pretty fast but like most MOD addicted simmers my hard drives are full of "stuff". How much free space is on my Windows drive is also a factor for me. That seemingly shrinks by itself all the time.
