Win 10 and FSX-SE Compatibility?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to acquire a new Windows 10 PC because my old (XP Pro) one struggled with FSX-SE, even offline and Steam is no longer suporting XP after December 31st.  Saitek/Logitech don't have driver support for XP any more either.  I mostly use Majestic's Dash 8 Q400, which will work on Win 10 but I'm seeing lots of (older) posts on forums saying FSX-SE won't work on Windows 10!!  Is that still the case, or has someone come up with a patch / workaround?

Win 10 and FSX-SE works very well with me.  I had a few startup problems but they seem to resolve themselves and the installation became more mature.  I'm running an older Dell XPS 8500 with an i7-3770 @3.400Ghz, 8G RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 7500 video card.  I installed FSX-SE on a separate dedicated SSD drive.

Hi Threebears,

Both FSX and FSX-SE recommend not to install the system in the normal Program Files directory because of possible permission problems.  I also figured that FSX or FSX-SE would load faster from a separate drive.  I chose a Samsung SSD 250 GB drive which cost about $300 5 years ago and it's worked very well.  The prices of SSDs have dropped like a proverbial "shot duck".  I saw a 1TB Samsung SSD listed from Newegg for about $150 and a 500 GB SSD for about $70.   It make sense to install a dedicated drive for the sim and with a 500GB or 1TB drive, you could install both FSX-SE and P3D on the same drive with our interfering with the rest of you system.  Most modern system easily accommodate installation.
