FSX-SE (Freeware) Tu-154 to (Payware) Moscow Airport

The Tupolev company has been a major aircraft manufacturing company (most of its aircraft were produced for the (former) USSR and the Eastern Bloc). Tupolev is also noted to have a rather curious connection with the famous German aircraft pioneer Hugo Junkers, who founded a clandestine aircraft factory in the suburbs of Moscow in 1922 (to evade the terms of the Versailles Treaty). This start-up company was then turned over to the able hands of Andrei Tupolev in 1925. Tupolev carried forward the innovative (all-metal duralumin-skin) design approach of Junkers defining the subsequent trends of heavy-aircraft development. Unfortunately, Tupolev aircraft (and the Tu-154 variants in particular) have been known for very poor safety record (For Tu-154 alone, there were 110 serious accidents between 1970 and 2016) - although, to be fair, it is to be noted that Tu-154 often operated under very harsh conditions in the rural areas with little or no regular service available to these aircraft compounded by lack of adequate pilot training facilities (estimated 50% of accidents due to pilot error). In 2006, Tupolev was merged with Ilyushin, Mikoyan/MiG, Sukhoi, and Yakovlev to form the United Aircraft Corporation.  

Here is, Tu-154-B-2 variant in the colors of INTERFLUG, flying between St. Petersburg (ULLI) and Moscow (UUEE). I've attached one unit of CIVA INS for navigation of this flight (Tu-154 used Doppler system) and also included a few pictures of the Sheremetyevo Airport add-on (result of looking around a bit with BOB). Sorry, no VC for this aircraft. Thanks for viewing these images of this interesting 3-engine aircraft (the Soviet equivalent of Boeing 727 and HS Trident). [AS/Orbx(BOB)/MSE]

Yes, agree. The Tupolev Project team were at their best in FS2004, with remarkably authentic (FW) simulations of these very interesting (and different) aircraft. I remember the "attempted" English translations of the instruction manuals, and the fact that a cold-and-start of such aircraft were probably some of the hardest in the SIM for the time (but rewarding)...no configuration manager to set Initialization times to "instant". You had no choice but to wait, and get a cup of coffee, if you wished...🙂...

And, of course, seeing/using a Boeing 727 VC for a Tu-154 is just not the same!

my memory is quite different and assisted by the aircraft being currently installed and working in FSX.

The excellent 165 page English manual is very well written and the aircraft

performs exactly as its developers intended in FSX.

It takes eight minutes to start and there is no time to go away and have a coffee.

It looks superb and remains a learning experience.

Hi: I was flying it often in FS2004, the original PT version, the way it was intended (that was nearly 6 years ago). I recall it surely took (at least) me quite some time to initially figure out the terminology and nomenclature (gauge-readings/autopilot-controls/start-up procedures etc.), but there is no question it was superb and rewarding. However, being away from SIM for the last 4-5 years, I've never installed it or tried it in FSX. I would love to have it again on my (current) FSX-SE system, if possible, and re-learn. I'll investigate. Thanks.

I like this topic very much, because I'm not only a dedicated Tupolev pilot (at the 134), but my birth country was the GDR, home country of the INTERFLUG (although I never flew with the airline in real world).

I still use FS2004 and heard only good things about PT's model, however, the 154 is too big for my needs and skills. I'd be interested to hear if there's a good Tu-134 rendition for the newer sims, especially X-Plane 11, as this plane is - beside some others - one major reason still to stuck with FS2004.

Hi Harald: Regarding TU-134, could you search for "Tu-134 Pilot Sanya"? It is FW and seems like a good rendition for XP, but please check version compatibility.

And, BTW, the choice of INTERFLUG here was intentional on my part...I am aware of your affinity for this livery...🙂...Of course, the livery does look elegant too...

Thanks for this information. Model seems to be for XP10, looks very good (incl. cockpit), surely worth a try as soon as I own XP.
