Is the attitude of IPACS bad? If you have purchased a product that does not work as advertised - you have reason to complain. But I do not think that applies to Aerofly FS2.

The attitude to delete - or even to post-edit, which happened, too -  a considerable number of critical forum contributions is bad, at least in my mind.

Kind regards, Michael

You have to cut them a little slack on this one, too. Running a forum with one hand while trying to concentrate on developing, is actually Mission Impossible. So a little hard-handed moderating is not unexpected, especially if the content would be a damper on your endeavours. And as we all know, in a forum the admin rules, so like it or lump it.
I had a runin with Allensworth here years ago, and he actually banned me for a month for back-chatting him. I came back and respected the rules, because overall the AVSIM forums are frequented by Good Chaps and it would be silly to let a personal spat interfere with that experience.

So we should tell IPACS how to code their sim and if don't have a clue about coding we should shut up and move on? I posted that the sim is getting long pauses when scenery is being loaded, I said so a year ago already, I even suggested they might look into loading scenery in smaller batches or fading it in. .... Saying what's bad about a sim out of love for it and in order to see it being improved is constructive imho. 😉

I think the problem might lie with your rig? I don't see this, and I didn't pick up on others having the same problem. I suspect IPACS simply didn't have an answer for you. I do see longer initial loading times, but that is to be expected isn't it, with huge PR sceneries in the sim.

Everyone has this and it's even confirmed by IPACS so yes, others have this problem too. Whenever cultivation is being loaded in the distance you get a stutter, a hickup, a pause, whatever you call it. But as with all things performance related some people see this all the time while others can't be bothered. 😉 I did two flights above TE this afternoon and the hickups were VERY noticable. It's totally different than in P3D, of course, but since AFS2 is so smooth most of the time, the stutters are even more obvious. In P3D my stutters are very short (and can be more frequent depending on where I look), in AFS2 they are long, like actual pauses: the screen really stops updating for a split second. This gets more noticable when I get near places like Rotterdam or Amsterdam and it's defenitely related to the cultivation. In between things are smooth as can be but those pauses are spoiling it for me. (I have a i7 [email protected] and a GTX1080 and run the sim at only 1920x1080.) As long as IPACS doesn't come up with a system that can load cultivation smoothly this will only get worse.

Yes, critics on IPACS is absolutely legitimate !!!!  And there is a lotta to complain under my point of view.

On 23th February 2018 "drhotwing1" - a member from IPACS staff - made this official statement on steam:

PostAerofly FS 2 VR Hands Have Arrived!

......As developers we have a continuing and growing passion for developing Aerofly FS 2 into the best virtual flying experience ever seen, and it's fueled by the growing community that has stood behind us the entire way. We are committed to building upon the solid foundation that we already have, and will continue to build until we have the best flight simulator ever made..........

I'm sure many others, like me, bought Aerofly FS 2 because they trusted in the announcements of IPACS/drhotwing1, that they will improve this  still bare-bones sim.

For me, as a non VR user, their progress of developement in relation to their promisses is not acceptable ! (--> the above you can read/ I've quoted, is not the only advertisement they've done in such a manner.)

I mean, the status quo is pretty clear:

  • A monster of GB on my hard drive; to much dead data storage for just casual simming!
  • On the other hand still no dynamic weather themes, only one season (since the beginning of aerofly FS in 2012).
  • no AI Traffic at all.
  • still a non living world and antiseptical environment.
  • no real improvement in their flying school/mission section of the sim since their first release in 2012.
  • still this ugly water mask (but with slightly better colours comparing to version 01/2012 at least ---> Bush flying in PNW, when ORBX will have pushed TrueEarth Pacific Northwest to the market, without dynamic water and without waterplanes 😡 ????!!!! )
  • many of this development delays/denails still exist since Aerofly FS v.1 (published in 2012)
  • still no heli aboard  (even the brand new VR Simulator on market -  FlyInside - delivers three of them in its basic configuration).

For me, as an owner of 3 Aerofly versions and a non VR-user, a very unrewarding situation.

PS Anyway, thank you Jerome for opening this thread/survey.  Very good idea indeed !

I have a comparable system. But I've only ever flown VFR over Holland, in a low+slow little aircraft.
I guess my scenery reloads infrequently, then. I have noticed upon occasion, a small fart (!) from the right speaker and a pause in the graphics: I had thought there was a sound issue, maybe it's not.

Anyhoo...I am not here to carry a torch for IPACS.
I do think it's a question of expectation: if you have an unrealistic one, you are bound to be disappointed.
It's up to you, how little you want to enjoy yourself. 🙂
