CPU upgrade from i7-4790K socket LGA1150

Recommended Posts

I'm  using the i7-4790k in an Asus Z97 Socket LGA 1150 mobo and would like to know if I could upgrade the cpu to  a later series, for better performance in P3dv4.3, if so,any recommendations?

If you want to stick with the 1150 mobo, the short answer is no. I have the same CPU and checked this out just last week. I have decided to stay with it until next year sometime since I am very pleased with the performance at 1080P (specs in signature below).

I'll   keep it until its not longer capable of powering my system with monitors resolution  of 2560 x 1440, just thought I'd test the water for a quick upgrade.

What video card are you using? I have a 1070 and am happy with the performance!

Apparently there is a new version of the 1060 coming with the 5X ram as opposed to the basic 5. Supposed to be a nice improvement to the 1060.

If it's anything like the GDDR5X version of the 1080 (I have the MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X Plus), you're probably looking at about a 5% improvement over the standard GDDR5 version.
