Recommended Posts

I own both and as the others have said two different airplanes both excellent!

The Maddog X is the best plane available right now IMO.  The VC and lighting is the best I’ve seen. However the TFDI is no slouch either.

I have always wondered why no one talks about how great the MaddogX is! Also for me is of the best Add-ons available.

Thanks all for the advice, had a little flight last night in the maddog to workout the basic autopilot-y bits and peices and get a feel for the old girl. What a treat! Going to download the latest Beta build when i get home this evening! If there's an X-mas sale i can see myself getting the 717 then after all the recommendations for that as well and the MD-11 comparisons

Cheers

In the Readme file that comes with SP1, is complete advice on installing. It is necessary to manually move the registration file to a safe place first, then uninstall - either using the uninstaller program already in one of the Maddog X folders, or using Windows Control Panel. Finally the two Madddog X folders located in “Documents” need to be manually deleted.

Having done that, the SP1 installer can be run, and the registration file (previously backed up) restored after the installer is done running.

The initial manual folder removal is necessary because there has been a substantial change in the Maddog X folder structure with SP1. Any add-on liveries will have to be re-installed afterward.

I have both...and also the DC9 Coolsky (but that's another story ;-))

In terms of systems, they are more deeply modelled in the Maddog. We are at the level of Majestic, Pmdg and so....
Be advised that the Maddog will be installed on disk 😄 (4GB). The installer does not give you the choice of location. Many users protested (including me). So far Leonardo has remained deaf to complaints!

The B717's systems are less sophisticated than the Maddog's, but it is a very pleasant aircraft to use and fly. The textures and lighting are superb and really a success.
If you have MCE, a complete set of flows is almost finished and will be available very soon.
I have never had a CTD with the TFDI but it's true, some have had this problem.

If you can take both. Otherwise, watch the many videos on Youtube to help you make a choice.

Beta team member. It's installed per LM guidelines. If that doesn't suit your needs, I recommend using symbolic links. There are a lot of moving parts under the hood.

Please go first to the Load Manager and deactivate the registration before uninstalling!!

I also uninstalled and reinstall everything from scratch/

It’s not necessary to unregister if the registration file is first manually copied to another location before uninstalling the aircraft.

Simply doing an uninstall is not enough. There are two Maddog-specific folders in the main Documents folder that have to be manually deleted after running the uninstaller, and before running the SP1 beta installer. If this is not done, the installed beta will not work correctly.

After running the beta SP1 installer, you can then copy your registration file back, and the aircraft registration will be fully valid in the Load Manager without having to re-register with Leonardo.

When you download the beta installer, and unzip it, there is a PDF file in the archive that has precise instructions on how to do a proper uninstall of of the original MaddogX, and the new installation of the SP1 beta.

Hi All,

Long time simmer and lurker, first time poster here!

I upgraded to P3D V4 a couple of months ago and have been updating my scenery and hanger with each paycheck and have now got to a point where i'm looking for my next aircraft that i haven't got and i'm looking for something not Airbus or Boeing. I am a study level flyer (finally got proper fsuipc recently to get down to the knitty gritty of multi-engine control!) and fly both Aerosoft A3XX professional and PMDG 737 and 747.

I have seen the MD-82 and the 717 and was wondering which one to go for? I mostly fly in Europe so both would now be quite niche but i quite like that idea eg DAT flying MD-82 or the Volotea 717 plus using house liveries for private flights.

My rig is a 6700k and 1070 so i would expect performance not to be an issue - the PMDG 747 flies like a beauty with Tomatoshade and rain effects.

Thanks for any guidance

James

James, I know this forum is strictly about the 717 vs md-82 but my system is almost identical and I get fair frames in the 747 and terrible frames in the FSLabs a320 would you mind sending me your settings, if not I understand. Just wondering how to make my sim better!

Simon
