Hmm, I fail to see how anyone will be able to enjoy photoscenery in P3Dv4 with it's known issues regarding loading photo textures. 😢

I suspect Justflight VFR will go down well with FSX and FSX:SE users, will be interesting to see what the performance is like they claim it will improve performance over the default and improved night lighting.

Very excited about this! I'm a current user of VFR Horizon X Photographic Vol 1, 2 and 3 in P3Dv4.3 and it's fine at <5000ft, but yes P3Dv4 does seem to struggle with it at higher altitudes getting blurry, although all MS derived simulators seem to had this issue to varying degrees.

Using the extended detail terrain textures helps a bit but it makes initial loading times much longer. You can use TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 too, which does more of the same but then I got quite big performance hits for very slight gains in sharpness.

Will be interested to see how TrueEarth and JustFlight 3D compare in quality and price. JF's Revolution X product was a mixed bag.

I don't have VFR Horizon X but a few VFR France sceneries. On my system, extended textures or even TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 doesn't make photoreal scenery more crisp. Yes, it does improve landclass-based scenery (slightly), but not photo, at least not on my system.

As far as I understand (from statements by LM team members on their forum), there is an inherent issue at least with Prepar3d4 displaying photoscenery. Some people (including me) hope this *might* be resolved in one of the forthcoming upgrades.

Kind regards, Michael

I’ve been using the Orbx true earth Great Britain in xplane and can confirm it works well at 250ft and  420kts , even in VR. I’m just hoping the P3D version or justflights scenery works as well.

I've been flying with photoreal scenery since 2004 and truly enjoy it despite some minor issues.   I have found good quality PR with a good set of AGN on top will help camouflage some of the distant blurries.  It's the plain, flat photoreal with no autogen on top that highlight the issue worse.

I have a sneaking feeling this may be addressed with P3Dv5. 🎃

What is interesting about JF's forthcoming photoscenery is that it appears it will combine the effect one could achieve in FSX when using their photoscenery in combination with their Revolution X. That is to say it will be photorealistic scenery, but with custom autogen over the top of it.

The customised autogen will need to be a lot better than Revolution X. I never used that, but every YouTube video that I watched failed to impress me.

I don’t mean to bad mouth Orbx, because I have, and will remain one of their staunchest supporters. But from a lot of the videos I have seen, the resolution of the photo scenery textures seems to me pretty low res. Am I alone with this observation?

Its not the best at ultra low level, but IIRC JV said somewhere that it was essentially a licencing cost issue.  Going to 60cm/pp over 1.2m/pp is also a 4x product size increase (without seasons)  For the price it will be sold at I dont think we can argue.  It probably wouldnt be a cost effective business decision to do 60cm/pp 😞  Look how it turned out for Earth Simulations....

I suspect that some of the blurry terrain textures in YouTube videos and screenshots are due to the highest resolution textures struggling to load quickly enough. If some of the blurry textures that I have seen online are a true indication of terrain texture resolution, then I will not be impressed.

Chris, the same could be said about the Horizon PR, that is 1.2m/pp as well.  It is what it is...
