Res1 and Res4 tank logic 747-8

Featured Replies

Hi, what is the logic for usage of the res1 and res4 tanks in the 747-8? I am currently doing a flight and was expecting that fuel to be used, but it doesnt it seems...

Have a hard time getting my head around this fuel logic

Res1 and Res 4 fuel will be transferred automatically to Main1 and Main 4 over time, do not expect the fuel to be used directly from that tanks

It is a difference I noticed between the 744 and the 748. In the 744 the reserve tanks are transferred before the fuel tank to engine message is displayed while it is the other way round on the 748.

In the b748 you match the fuel of main 1 and res1 with main 2.

From the 747-8 FCOM:

“Each reserve tank contains two transfer valves. The valves open and fuel gravity transfers to the outboard main tanks when main tank 1 or 4 fuel quantity decreases to approximately 6,100 kilograms.”
