After realtime flying for 8hrs + I get this...well Microsoft get this also...

Hello, I am going nuts trying to resolve the following and yes I have looked at other postings but nothing has seemed to work for me.After flying for at least 8 hrs + I get an error message which says I have run out of Hard disk space and FS9 needs to close. Now as yiou can see from my specs below I dont think with 352GB of hard space free on my PC and a total of 542GB I have run out of hard disc space have I? Neither with 2047GB of memory with only 18% used have I run out of that also? The only thing that I can think of is that I farted about with the page setting file and decided, God knows why, to let windows decide what is good for me! I have now revertd to no page file sytem on all drives, I have three in total and the one with flight sim on has ample space left on it over 150GB.Can someone please advise me on this one? I have to do atleast 8hr flights before it decides to let me know it has "Run out of harddisc space and memory" etc etc.The specs are belowregardsPaulSpecsComputer Type: Intel Corporation Pentium 4 3360 MHz.BIOS: AT/AT COMPATIBLE Date: 02/23/04Memory: Total physical: 2047 MB. I have heard that even if you turn off the page file, WinXP will still create a small pagefile on your root drive. IF this is false, someone please tell me, but this is what I have heard.I think that with the page file, you may be on the right track. Win may be attempting to page data to the disk, but yet it has been told to not page. But I am thinking out loud...lets hear others suggestions...RhettAMD 3700+ powered by Gerbil wheel + gerbil, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 gigs Corsair TWINX, blah blah, etc. etc.

Thanks Rhett, Thanks for your feedback.I am going to attempt a flight now, having reverted back to "no page file". By the way I have two installations of windows on my PC with a Raid config. One installation is specifically for FS9, stripped of everything. Do I need to keep both installations consistent in terms of the page file settings for the page file? For example, if I have no page file set in windows (1) and a "let windows decide page file" set in Windows (2) does this matter?RegardsPaul

With Windows XP, I must select your C drive. And select "System manage size". And then press set. Then reboot. That will end the error message.Bill M

Sounds like an out of memory (oom) error to me.Search the forums for this and about texture folders with landclass bgls. There's been loads of discussion about it.It's the bane of my life too and I've systematically blamed and exonerated almost all the addons I have installed. Every so often though, I get this error.Thank heavens for autosave.....Hope this helps,Ian

Hi Paul.I feel your pain, it is totally frustrating when these things happen, I have lost count over time as to how many of these system type instances have occurred.the most common one that I experienced was the G2D.DLL error, that no one can seem to fix.even Michael at FSGS can't resolve it, and believe me when I say that he has spent hour after hour with me on it.all I got from MS FS support was to un-install and then re-install all over again.which I have done many times, even with nothing in there add on wise.maybe my system is just not compatible with FS9.1there are times when it will throw up an error message that is misleading too, and it doesn't necessarily point in the right direction either, just a generalised area, talk about "vague" I think they must practise it.but please do let us all know if you manage to fix it, as this is useful for others with similar problems, or should I be politically correct now and say "issues" as we don't seem to have problems any more, just issues.anyone seen office space, I can relate to what they did with that printer. Thanks,

What Flight Simulator add-ons have you installed?

Could be a corrupt pagefile ;-)Easy to solve set the pagefile size at 0 then reboot and set the new pagefile size ;-)Have fun,Andr

Thanks Guys for the feedback. It is comforting to know that I m not alone. I like my flying, like we all do, but I am not kidding twice now I have done all-nighters (long flights of 8hrs and more. On one occasion, I kid you not, I had flown from ManchesterUK to VHHH Hong Kong and I was 50ft AGL from the runway and what does Microsoft Windows decide to do? Yes, you guessed it -sorry you have run out of memory etc etc etc Yawn. We have all experienced similar problems. Anyway, back to the news, I have a ton of add ons, at least 14GB of them but I am very fastitidous as to what use. I have searched for empty texture folders etc but found none. I have now reverted the page file back to O page file and re-booted, then I have let the sytem decide again only on Drives D: and C: and re-booted again.I have two installations of windows and the D: is basically the C: drive on the installation of windows I use for FS9 I have several other drives G: F: H: L: as well as D: and C: I have now set all the above to zero page file except those mentioned. D: is the FS9 drive with about 200GB on it.I hope thi works now. i am about to fly EGLL-KMIA real time ....I will find out if I kill another 340 pasengers in FSpassengers.RegardsPaul

>anyone seen office space, I can relate to what they did>with that printer.D a m n it feels good to be a gangster....:-)

I had tried all manner of things and was quite cynical about Flight sim manager

Are you running any of the Ultimate Terrain products? Do this, change all of the MaskClassMap=3 and MaskClassMap=1 entries in your terrain.cfg file to MaskCLassMap=0 (backup the file first). Also, are you running any of the UT sandwich patches to enable both UT and other landclass sets? Disable them, and try running only the UT landclass sets (no sandwich patches). I've been troubleshooting this UT/complicated-aircraft CTD issue for months and for the first time ever, I was able to complete two particular flights this week with both UT and PMDG products enabled on a long-haul. I think there is still a landclass issue that the developers are unaware of and the FS 9.1 patch didn't fix everything it said it did.Hope this helps...

Hey Guys,I hope I can shed some light on this subject. I too struggled with this for over a year on EVERY single long haul into KEWR, EGCC, EGLL etc... I now fly into ImagineSim KEWR all the time using the PMDG 737, 744, the LDS with FS2Crew, PSS 77 and regularly do the LLBG KEWR flight of 12 hours.I am not sure what really fixed the problem for me but here is what I did.First off, let us know if you use UT, if so there are some preliminary steps. If not, try this:1. Restore your default texture directory. A corrupt, misplaced, missing texture file that FS expects is a possible cause.2. Go back to virtual memory. Set all drives to 0 then disabled.Reboot3. Defrag4. Go back to virtual memory, set c: to custom of 2-200, this does a few things. First it leaves enough room on C for a Dump if you need one, second it ensures that all other pagefiles actually get set. If you disable VM on your Windows partition, no other pagefile will be recognized. Now go to another partition, (Not your FS partition and not your Windows partition) Ideally, this is a seperate drive on a seperate controller. Not just a partition on the same drive as your O/S. I have a seperate drive on my second raid controller just for swap :)5. Reboot6. Ensure that Task scheduler is enabled and prefetch is working...Try the same flight. Anytime I get an OOM I follow these steps, refly the same flight and it has always fixed it. I tried EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AND NOTHING ELSE WORKED FOR OVER A YEAR. Trust me, do a search on my posts and you will see ;)MaskClasMap= never affected anything for me, just an fyi but I don't know that there is a silver bullet so it might help you...Like I said, if you have UT there are other steps as well but this should help,-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledAMD FX-57 @ 3 gigsAsus A8NSLI-Premium2 gigs Corsair XMS PC3500LL 2 3 2 6 1TXFX 7900 GTX 690/1750XFX 7800 GTX 515/135024 inch Widescreen LCDDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1khttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7800 GTX 515/1350 Raid-0psolk.jpg

Essentially you select the Services and so forth that you want running, then save it to a profile.Control Panel---->System---->Hardware--->Hardware Profiles>Do I need to keep both installations consistent in terms of>the page file settings for the page file? For example, if I>have no page file set in windows (1) and a "let windows>decide page file" set in Windows (2) does this matter?>>Regards>>PaulI believe that each install will use the page file that you have set up for it (Control Panel---->System--->Advanced, etc. etc.). As far as I know, there won't be any conflict. At least I hope there would not be. But then usually when people run 2 copies of an OS, they run different versions, for example Linux and WinXP on a dual-boot, or Win98SE and WinNT...were pretty common...but I have not heard of anyone running a two WinXP's like you are doing. I think that was the whole reason MS created Hardware Profiles--so a person would not need to have 2 versions of the same OS installed. Now a little of my opinion: #1) I feel it's best to set minimum page file size the same as maximum page file size. #2) I also think that you'll be getting file paging in WinXP no matter how much ram you have; so running with a size zero pagefile won't net you any performance gains. If this is not correct in your experience, I'd like to know, as I am always trying to learn new things.RhettAMD 3700+ powered by Gerbil wheel + gerbil, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 gigs Corsair TWINX, blah blah, etc. etc.

With more than 14GB of addons I'd be inclined to suggest the problem is more likely to be caused by an addon rather the FS9 or your hardware.
