777 Won't Stay on Course

Good evening everyone! I was flying the 777 this evening heading from LAX to ATL; I was cruising at FL390 just on A/P and all of the sudden the plane violently rolled right and then left again. It kept doing this, so I turned off A/P and tried to get it straight on course again. As soon as I turned on A/P after getting on course, it began rolling off course again. Every time it would try to fix itself, it would over-do the turn and be way off course. I have had this plane for 2 years and it has never done anything like this. Any suggestions for what this could be? Thanks so much.

What changed recently on your system? BIOS update? Had you never set up an exclusion for the sim in your AV software? Did you plug your controller into a different USB port? New hardware? etc.

Something changed that was not the 777 code, so it's not the plane as much as something interacting with the plane. The cause will be found in that change.

What were you using for weather generation?  When this happens has something reset your aileron trim to full right?

Sorry for the late response. I did redo my setup, so it's possible my hardware was put in different USB ports. I will check on that. 

 

I am currently using REX for my weather. I don't think my aileron trim was altered, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on that next time.

Please check the intro manual for advice on setting up the weather. I don‘t know off my head if there is sth about REX anywhere, it might be too new. But in general the weather engines (Active Sky in particular) provide much too aggressive turbulences to be handled correctly by a „real“ autopilot like it is simulated here. I don‘t know REX, but in AS you need to lower the turb settings to max 20. I would try to do that in REX too. The behaviour you describe fits to this.

Check your weather engine and FSUIPC wind settings.

I remember once I enable wind smoothing in FSUIPC but forgot to turn off the turbulance effect, the plane will fly like an 'S'. If you have both of these enable, turn one of them off.
