HiFlyer

So I delided my 8700k....

😀 Mine will do 5.2 as well. At something like 1.4 volts I recall. 5.3 was no dice though. And I didn't fancy pushing up to 1.5 volts.

5 Kilohertz Dougal!!! I always knew you were in possession of alien tech.

Plausible ...according to at least two Harvard researchers.

...who are also aliens in disguise. Related to the queen who's said to be an alien shape shifting reptile.

Just the word delidding brings sweat beads to my forehead...

Ha... it's no big deal these days with a decent tool. Reasonable care and all is well. I wouldn't advise anyone to do it that couldn't afford to replace their CPU though... just in case.

The only issue I had was as follows... pushed in the plunger on the tube of Conductonaut and it stuck, and then gave way all of a sudden, squirting liquid metal clean across my kitchen floor.  😀

Was ready for it the second time I delidded.

Mine does 65C under full load at 5.1C on AIDA64. Real world, P3D use and it's never higher than 56C. It is also delidded, however I just paid the cash and had silicon lottery do mine. Also, its under a custom watercooled setup. I didn't see what your cooling setup is, but those temps don't look horrible.

It almost doesn't matter. I've found that our legacy sims only reluctantly respond to the increased power. Thanks for checking the temps!

That's strange to me. My experience is flipped with Aida64 vs P3d 4.3, P3D is 10c higher than Aida64.

Depends if you set Aida to run with FPU or not. FPU uses AVX.

Oh yes, I only had a bash at max overclock for fun. Overclocking is linear, so as you say, the increase in performance is minuscule for a few hundred megahertz. And that's for a CPU biased title, even less in games, especially at higher res.

yeah, I use the full stress test, with no avx offset, 7 to 8 degrees cooler than P3d. Albeit, I run the heck out of p3D. :-)

Delidding my 6700k was the best hardware mod I've done. Used the debauer tool and it was super easy. Then liquid metal , and then kryonaut for the paste on the IHS.  With my Corsair H115i I have improvements of 18-20 deg over previous using the same stress tests. Although I didnt get a great OC CPU, its solid at 4.6 @1.32V.

But will need to make the jump to a 9700k soon. Its had its time. If I had an 8700k I would do it again probably.
