PC Case Thoughts & Recommendations

Recommended Posts

No optical drive here either. Used my external Blue Ray drive a few times when initially installing  stuff after I built and that's it. Not once since.

My two choices of case both had no DVD option. Seems to be a dwinding choice. I have another PC with one and have shared it on my network. The only software I have on DVD is FS Global on 8 DVDs. Once that is installed I have no real need for DVD.

An external DVD drive remains an option and with two USB3 sockets on the front of the case it's easy to connect.

8 DVD's worth will take a long time over network.  What I do, anything that is on dvd, I use cd writing software to create an ISO of the disc, then copy to a USB External Hard Disk.  Install Daemon Tools lite on your PC and it will open the ISO as a virtual drive, installs in no time

You are prompted to insert the next disk when installing FS Global. Will your suggested plan still work?

Having had a USB HDD and then a WD Green 1Tb SATA HDD lose years worth of data that will cost me the best part of £800 tom recover, hence I opt for the safe DVD/R save option now.

Yes Ray, Daemon installs a virtual cd/dvd drive, so it's just a case of mounting the next iso.  I've been installing FSX this way for years, which asks for DVD2 halfway thru.
