Non realistic clouds in P3D V4.3

I tend to disagree. I myself use 512 clouds too (though SkyForce) and imho they look better than any 4096 cloud. I don't think real world clouds are 4096: they are all 512. 😉 4096 only makes clouds look more fake.

But anyway, SAS433 wasn't talking about 4096 clouds looking better: he said the clouds (like in your screenshots) look cartoonish and don't reflect the sunlight properly: this has nothing to do with the resolution but with the rendering code, as Adam posted. Using 4096 won't solve that problem. Nothing will. Only a new rendering code will.

No problems with the current clouds.

Perhaps they look cartoonish on some monitors..

Here they look very nice as in the vid, but the cloud Shaders have been modified to make them look more realistic.

The cloud, lighting, weather system modeling needs to be scrapped and redone. There is only so much coats of paint you can put on old wood before you just need to get rid of it and start over. It's where we spend 99% of our time.

These clouds are totally fake and that 2D scenery is aweful, look at the low resolution:

And these 2D popcorn clouds, not realistic at all:

Fake!  And look at those ink blots for cloud shadows, totally fake ... just makes me wanna shoot myself.

Cheers, Rob.

Not sure you cleared your shaders there... 🙃

Yes, P3D's graphics engine isn't cutting edge, but the weather depictions are believable rather than the eye-bleedingly bad that some are claiming they are here.

I think what we have now does a pretty good job and is very 'plausible' in most cases.  I have seen some great, and what I would consider realistic cloudscapes in P3D.  One thing that I wish could be improved on is the cloud scaling.  The cover pic of Rob's second video shows it perfectly.  In the sim, I feel like the clouds are always right under me even if they are 20k feet below.  You don't get the feeling of altitude in the sim and I think that is one of the main reasons.

Looks very nice .

And the clouds will get softer edges the larger the monitors size. That adds to a more real look and that is also why I choose for 512 clouds with a 256 OC.

While P3D has its flaws when it comes to cloud lighting, I have nevertheless been able to achieve a respectable quality by using ENVTEX + ENVSHADE + AS2016 + ASCA. Here is one example:

153v1wh.jpg

There is still room for improvement, but it looks much better than in the P3D default state.

Which weather add-on was used back then?  Active Sky 1983? 😄

I'm pretty happy with my clouds too, I have to say. They may look fake to some but they work for me.
