is the 43UD79-B ok with response time ?  I am thinking of getting the lastest PHILIPS Momentum 43' which has 4ms response time and design for gaming...    any idea if it is better than the LG for simming ?

Thanks,

Greg

YouTube reviews I have watched indicated that the LG was better than the Phillips. But for shoot 'em up games, maybe the Phillips is better. However, the LG suffers no lag on flight simulators. I suggest checking the reviews.

Probably better if you posted this in the hardware forum.  I am curious, what is the advantage of 30HZ?  My display runs at 60-70HZ I believe, it is a nine year old LCD monitor that has never given me trouble.  I even have nightmares about someone taking it from me, lol...  It's a Samsung and they build things to last.

John

I am curious also. Can anybody give a nontechnical answer? I am currently running 4k at 60 Hz (locked at 30 FPS) on a display capable of 30 Hz.

Thx!

I use your same settings for 4K . I tried the 30Hz and it was okay but 60Hz locked at 30FPS gives me a much smother flight.I have the same computer specs as you. I say use what works for you and forget about it.

I think regardless of the HZ, having an HDMI connection like I do is what helps the most.  I set up an HDMI connection to my ex wife's big screen TV after our divorce (since I am still her handyman and tech guy) so she could use the laptop I gave her to watch high def movies.  When she wants to watch, she just plugs the loose cable I left her into her laptop and voila! she is connected and good to go.  I do not worry too much about my sim settings, I do like to use Vsync when it is available, it helps with fluidity IMHO.  I max all my graphics settings after an install if they are not maxed already.  If I do not like performance, I adjust them a bit at a time, and just one at a time until I find the setting that influences performance the most.  If a setting does not influence performance, I max it back.

I do this for the first day of installing a sim, and once I am done in the words of infomercial man Ron Popiel "I set it and forget it".  If an update increases performance, like the latest Xplane and P3D updates, then I will increase any lowered setting and see if I can get away with it.  If I can, wonderful, if I cannot, no problem, I have nothing to lose anyway.  I have been in IT much of my career until retirement in 2015 (I retired at age 54), and I learned the "If it ain't broke" rule early on.  Our policy as WAN admins and software support for our canned products was not to upgrade until the smoke cleared, in case any bugs appeared.

We stayed in touch with our competitors to support each other, we found nothing wrong with that.  When I was head accountant at Harrah's in Tahoe, I often worked with our competitors, Harvey's and Caesar's, on what we called "Best Practices".  It worked, in the end, all three Casinos were owned by the same parent company.  That is what is great about these forums, we learn from each other and come up with our own "best practices", not to compete with each other but to have the best software experience possible whether it be our sims or our OS.

Why not just change the refresh rate to 30Hz,  enable VSync and Triple Buffering and set frame rates to unlimited? FPS wil be locked to 30 and I suspect you will get better performance.
