FPS & Cloud Shadows

Recommended Posts

I recently noticed that when I have cloud shadows on, I tend to lose 25% to 50% of FPS in cloudy weather, not all around, only when panned in certain direction.  I wonder if there is a known solution to this.  I did search REX forum.  I have REX sky force, DTX5 1024 cloud textures use.  i7 + 1080 with reasonable settings.  I normally get 40FPS at all times.  Thanks in advance and happy thanks giving.

Same here. Shadows in common are a performance killer.
There is a cfg entry.. I can't remember the exact words but should be something like opaque shadow res or similar. Just do a search with the keyword "shadow".

The standard setting is 4096. I have reduced it to 1024 and gained a good amount of fps back.

It depends on the GPU.

Here I have Cloud Shadows Draw Distance to max icw Cloud Shadow Quality to Low and with 3 views my 2080Ti is running without losing more than 20% fps compared to No Shadows.

it's like sayin' : I hooked a small van to my G65 AMG and it lost a bit of it's acceleration ! ... 2080ti is a 1200$+ gpu owned by less than 5% of PC gamers, what about to majority of people? I'm using 1070ti And I can achieve good FPS in most of the titles but when it comes to P3D and it's cloud shadows, BAM ! 60% performance loss !
